SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
AT MYTHAM
Welcome to the Summer edition of our newsletter dedicated to sport and
physical activity at Mytham.
What a busy term we’ve had...and what a fantastic year it’s been!
This year has been filled with a wide variety of sporting events and competitions and we
have been able to provide a huge variety of after school clubs to our pupils right across
both key stages.
Clubs which have been on offer this year are:
Gymnastics Kwik Cricket Tennis Multi-Sports
Tri-Golf Tag Rugby Yoga Dodgeball Athletics
Rounders Netball Dance Fitness Friday Active Kids
Cross Country Football
July 2019
Extra Curricular
Sport Clubs
2019-2020
We are in the process of
moving the booking and
payment system for after school
clubs to the online Agora
system.
We will hopefully be able to give
you more details about this
in the Autumn term.
Sport Leaders
Mr Barlow has been busy
training next year’s Sport

confident are going to do
a great job!
The new Sport Leaders

If there are any parents who have a particular expertise in any
area of sport who are keen to help our staff to run
extra-curricular clubs and activities, then please let us know.
We are always glad of extra help!
Similarly, if there are any parents who are in a position to help
out with kit sponsorship, this is also something we would be
extremely grateful for.
A record number of pupils have participated in extra-curricular sporting
activities this year which is amazing!
We plan to continue this success next year and hope that you will continue
to encourage your children to sign up for after school clubs as they are a
great way of keeping healthy whilst also having fun!

MYTHAM SUCCESS STORIES!
We are so proud of our Rounders team who
managed to bring home the shield yet again with
a great win in the final against St Stephens.
The annual Rounders Tournament has been
running here at Mytham for the last 6 years...and
I can proudly say that Mytham have now won it
for 4 out of those 6 years!
This year, for the first time, Mytham organised
a swimming Gala for primary schools in the
Kearsley and Little Lever clusters.
The event, which was held at Bolton One, was
a huge success and a fantastic showcase of
some very talented young swimmers.
I am thrilled to say that Mytham were the
overall winners with other children receiving
medals for 1st place wins within individual
races.
Here are our fantastic winners!

PE Kit Can we please remind parents that we do have both an indoor and outdoor PE kit which the
children are expected to wear at all times during lessons. Standards have slipped recently,
and whilst we understand that parents are reluctant to purchase new clothing at this late
stage in the year, we will expect to see all pupils in the correct kits in the Autumn term. We
will be checking this in the very first PE lessons in September and also making sure that all,
items are labelled in order to avoid clothing becoming lost. If a child does lose their PE kit,
they will wear kit from the spare store we have in school.
Indoor PE Kit for Dance and Gymnastics:
Plain white t-shirt.
Navy blue or black shorts or skort.
Black pumps.
All items must be without logos and lettering.
Outdoor PE Kit
for Games:
Plain white t-shirt.
Navy blue or black jogging
pants or leggings.
Navy blue or black long sleeved
jacket.
Trainers—these must not
be what the child is already
wearing for school.
Trainers should not be
worn for school.
All items must be without
logos and lettering.
May we also remind parents that physical activity and PE lessons are a statutory expectation of the
National Curriculum and all pupils should be taking part in their lessons each week unless there is a
valid reason why they can’t. In these circumstances, a note from a parent must be sent into school
explaining the reason. If this is an ongoing medical problem, we will request a doctors note.
From September, children not participating in lessons will be set extra maths and English work to
complete in another classroom whilst the lesson takes place.
Although unfortunately due to the
weather KS1 and KS2 Sports Days
were unable to go ahead, Nursery
children took part in their annual
‘Sports Week.’ They had lots of
fun!

Sportsman Of The Year Award
2018-19
The Sportsman Of The Year Award was given
to Olivia Paice this year for her outstanding
contribution to sport and PE during her time
here at Mytham. Olivia is extremely talented in
a variety of sports but also has many
admirable qualities; she is a great leader but
also a team player, she is dedicated and
ambitious with the desire to succeed, she wins
with pride and more importantly, she always
loses gracefully. You really do deserve this
award Olivia...a huge well done!
Summer Term 2019

tournament!
Sports Award
I am sure most of you have now met our
new Sports Coach, Mr Barlow. He has been
working hard delivering PE lessons across
school and running a variety of after school
clubs.
Mr Barlow has introduced a new sports
award which will be presented weekly to a
pupil who has shown a good attitude in an
area of sport or physical activity either in
lessons or during extra-curricular
activities.
