Youth Amenities

THE KIDS CLUBBabysitting Services For Briar Kids One Year & Older

The brand new Kids Club is The Briar Club’s space especially for little ones! Equipped with a play struc-ture, beautiful decor, play stations, toys and daily activities, there’s never a dull moment in the Kids Club!

PRICINGFirst Child: $6 per hour, then $3 per 30 minSecond Child: $5 per hour, then $2.50 per 30 minThird Child: $4 per hour, then $2 per 30 min

KIDS CLUB RESERVATIONSAdvance reservations (24 hours in advance) are strongly requested to ensure that we are able to accommodate your children prior to your visit to the Club. Reservations may be made via email to [email protected]. You will receive an email confirmation of your reservation from a Kids Club staff member.

KIDS CLUB POLICIESThe Kids Club is a babysitting service, and is not licensed through the State of Texas as a childcare facility. Parents must stay on premises at all times while their child is in the Kids Club. Daily stay limit per child is 4.5 hours. Parents are encouraged to keep their cell phones handy, in case staff needs to contact them.

THE NURSERYStay Tuned -- Full Details Coming Soon!

The Briar Club’s Nursery is an extension of the Kids Club babysitting little ones starting at six weeks old! Nursery Staff will be trained in American Red Cross First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, AED, and child abuse prevention, as well as SIDS & shaken baby syndrome prevention.

Parents must place advance reservations for their little ones in the Nursery before arriving to the Club. Parents must also provide their own diapers, wipes, formula, and other diaper bag supplies to leave with the Nursery attendants. The Nursery has a maximum stay limit of 4.5 hours per day.

TODDLER TUESDAYSSelect Tuesdays from 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Inviting all Briar Club Moms to join us for playdates with your little ones aged 1-3. After the playdate, Moms can have lunch in the Clubhouse and the kids can stay in the Kids Club (Kids Club Reserva-tions required for after the social). See the Club Calendar for a full list of dates.

Youth Activities In & Around the Pool

CANOE & SWIM CERTIFICATIONS

The Briar Club Swim Instructors can challenge your Boy & Girl Scout Troops and Summer Campers in their swimming skills, enabling them to participate in canoeing and other fun water activities this summer! Participants will be required to exhibit different swimming skills for the appropriate American Red Cross Certification Card.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAMAges 7-14

The Junior Lifeguard Program will teach children and teens between the ages of 7-14 how to detect and assist distressed swimming victims, how to make rescues, and the fundamentals of CPR and First Aid.

The American Red Cross Babysitter Training Course gives 10 to 15 year olds the skills and confidence to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. The course teaches young people how to:

We believe that a positive relationship between student and teacher will promote personal growth, development, and a rewarding swimming experience. Private & semi-private lessons are available for all ages and abilities!

C A N C E L L AT I O N P O L I C YCancellations must be received one week prior to the start of a session. Otherwise, a cancellation fee of $55 will be incurred. Cancellations made on or after the start date of the session will be charged the full session fee. Sessions will not be pro-rated due to student absence. Credits are only given for weather related or instructor cancellations.

C L A S S D E S C R I P T I O NOnce your child has mastered all the skills in the Seahorse class and is able to float independently, swim big arms and roll-overs across the pool, and is able to swim backstroke, they will be introduced to side-breathing, breaststroke and diving.

LIL’ BARRACUDASADVANCED - 4-6 YEARS OLD

C L A S S S C H E D U L E Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday4:00 pm and 5:00 pm | Starting in April 2016

R E Q U I R E M E N T SSwimmers must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently halfway across the pool to participate.

C L A S S D E S C R I P T I O NThis is a 45-min. swim team preparation class. During this class, swimmers will practice freestyle breathing to the side, backstroke, diving, endurance and speed in a fun and positive environment! Lil’ Barracudas are invited to participate in all fun Barracuda Swim Team activities in May & June, including home swim meets!

Lil’ Barracudas Home Exhibition Swim Dates:June 7, June 9, June 23 at 4:00 pmChildren will meet on the Sports Court.

R E Q U I R E M E N T SSwimmers must be three (3) years-old and/or have the approval of the Aquatics Department to participate.

C L A S S D E S C R I P T I O NThis group class for beginning swimmers emphasizes the skills taught in the Guppies class and includes being introduced to freestyle, rolling over on their backs for a breath, and backstroke.

Summer Swim Team

PRE-SEASON SWIM TEAM WORKOUTSAges 5-14 | Barracuda Swim Team Participants

These workouts are designed to provide a kick start for swimmers who will be participating in the Barracuda Summer Swim Team in 2016. This workout is strongly recommended for all new Members and new Barracuda participants. Workouts will emphasize stroke development, endurance, and speed in preparation for competitions in a team setting.

BARRACUDAS SUMMER SWIM TEAMAges 5-14 | Competitive Swim Team

Your swimmer is invited to join the Barracuda Summer Swim Team, which competes against various private clubs in and around Houston! This special Briar Club tradition provides an excellent learning environment for competitive intermediate and advanced swimmers.

M I S S I O N S TAT E M E N T“Through the best coaching at all ability levels, every swimmer is given the opportunity to achieve competitive success and to pursue their goals in swimming. The Briar Club Swim Team’s focus is on building team values and a sense of community. The coaching staff creates an environment that nurtures friendship, fun, good sportsmanship, and a love of swimming.”

G E N E R A L I N F O R M AT I O NSwimmer must be able to swim the length of the pool independently in Freestyle and Backstroke. Swimmers between the ages of 5-10 will swim 25 meters and swimmers between the ages of 11-14 will swim 50 meters. All Swimmers will compete in Freestyle and Backstroke in swim meets. Breaststroke, Butterfly and Relays are limited events for swimmers of all ages.

For practice schedules, please refer to the 2016 Swim Team Calendar on page 9.

P R I C I N GSWIM TEAM COST: $285 per child

Full amount of Swim Team is billed in May 2016 to the Members’ account and is not pro-rated due to swimmer’s absence. Pricing includes all practices, t-shirt, swim cap, snacks, Swim Team parties and Banquet. Swim Suits are a separate purchase and are available in The Briar Shop at any time.

C A M P D R O P - O F F Parents/Guardians are not required to stay on property for the duration of Camp. ● Please dress your child(ren) appropriately for their first activity. ● Drop-Offs are held each morning from 8:30 am - 8:45 am on the 2nd Floor of the Parking Garage. Children must be signed-in with counselors by their Parent/Guardian. ● Children dropped off after 8:45 am must be escorted to their first activity by a Parent/Guardian and signed in with their child’s counselor.

C A M P P I C K - U P Pick-Ups are held each afternoon from 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm on the 2nd Floor of the Parking Garage. ● All children must be picked up by 2:00 pm or parents will be charged a $30 late fee, plus $5 for every minute past 2:10 pm. Swim Team Funtastik Camp Staff does not provide aftercare for campers. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the transfer of their children between Swim Team Funtastik Camp and other Briar Club activities.

C A M P D R O P - O F F Parents/Guardians are not required to stay on property for the duration of Funtastik Camp. ● Drop-Off is held each morning from 8:30 am - 8:45 am on the 2nd Floor of the Parking Garage. ● Children must be signed-in with counselors by their Parent/Guardian. ● Children dropped off after 8:45 am must be escorted to their first activity by a Parent/Guardian and signed in with their child’s counselor.

C A M P P I C K - U P Pick-Ups are held each day from 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm on the 2nd Floor of the Parking Garage ● All children must be picked up by 3:30 pm, or parents will be charged a $30 late fee, plus $5 for every minute past 3:40 pm.

Summer Funtastik Camp Staff does not provide aftercare for campers. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the transfer of their children between Summer Funtastik Camp and other Briar Club activities.

JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM POLICIES

T U I T I O NTuition payment for program lessons will be due on the first of each month and will be the normal rate of tuition. Charges will be automatically billed to a Member’s account. Tuition may only be pro-rated when a new student begins a class after the first of the month.

W I T H D R AW A L / C A N C E L L AT I O N SThe Briar Club requires a full month’s notice before a student is withdrawn from lessons. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the remaining account balance at the time a withdrawal notice is given to the Briar Club Tennis Staff. To give notice of withrawal, you may stop by the Briar Shop, call (713) 552-2121 or email [email protected].

M A K E - U P L E S S O N SIf a student misses a regularly-scheduled lesson for any reason, the Parent/Guardian may schedule a make-up lesson through The Briar Shop. Please remember to call in advance. Make-up lessons are available by reservation only. All scheduled make-up lessons must be completed while the student is enrolled in the Junior Tennis Program.

D R O P - O F F S & P I C K - U P SNo children under the age of twelve (12) years of age shall be allowed access to the Club or shall be allowed to remain at the Club if unaccompanied by a parent or other adult responsible for the child. Parents/Guardians must remain on campus for the duration of the lesson. Parents/Guardians must escort their children directly to and from the tennis lesson. Tennis Pros and Briar Club Staff do not provide aftercare. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the transfer of their children between lessons and other Briar Club programs. No curbside drop-offs or pick-ups are allowed.

L E S S O N AT T I R EStudents should come dressed in comfortable active wear, such as shorts and a t-shirt. Non-marking soled shoes are required. Flip flops, Crocs, or open-toed shoes are not acceptable.

Keep your children active during the spring and summer by enrolling them in our Junior Tennis Program! Children are paired in groups with one of our USPTA-Certified Tennis Pros for 60 minute skill-building lessons. Small group sizes allow for each child to receive meaningful coaching from a Tennis Pro, while having fun along the way!

GUEST POLICY

Guests are welcome to participate in programs at The Briar Club, unless otherwise indicated. Guests must attend programs or lessons with their sponsoring Member. RELEASE FORM

I/We ____________________________________________________ (being each Parent or Guardian listed below), for myself/ourselves and each child or ward of mine/ours (listed below) (collectively, “Users”), hereby execute and deliver this Release (”Release”) in consideration for the right and privilege of the Users to participate in any activity in or at The Briar Club (the “Club”), do, for myself/ourselves and my/our heirs, executors, administrators, legal representatives and assigns, hereby:

A. Acknowledge and agree that there are dangers and risks inherent in the use of equipment and other amenities at the The Briar Club and in participations in activities at The Briar Club and, therefore, agree to use the Club strictly in accordance with the safety instructions as instructed by the instructors/supervisors employed by the Club to monitor the use of The Briar Club. The Users further acknowledge and agree that the Club makes no warranties or representations concerning the design, manufacture or instructions for use of the Wellness and Recreation equipment and the Club hereby expressly disclaims any and all such warranties or representations, expressed or implied. The Club warrants only that the Wellness and Recreation equipment will be maintained by the Club in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer thereof. The Users further agree that their participation in any and all activities at The Briar Club is conditioned upon the Users’ strict compliance with the rules and instructions established by the Club for such activities.

B. ASSUME THE RISK OF AND THE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR, AND RELEASE, WAIVE AND DISCHARGE, AND AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS, the Club and all of its directors, officers, employees and agents, acting in their respective capacities on behalf of the Club (collectively, the “Releases”) from any and all liability, loss or damage arising out of or from any personal injury to or death of Users and/or any third-party, and/or damage to the property of the Club, the Users, and/or any third-party, arising out of or relating in any manner to the Users’ use of The Briar Club and/or the Wellness and Recreation equipment, WHETHER CAUSED, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, BY THE SOLE OR CONCURRENT NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR FAULT OF ANY ONE OR MORE OF THE RELEASEES AND REGARDLESS OF WHETHER ALLEGED TO BE OR ACTUALLY CAUSED IN COMBINATION WITH THE SAME OR SIMILAR CONDUCT BY ANY THIRD-PARTY.

Nothing herein shall constitute a waiver or release by the Users of (a) any claims or causes of action that Users may have against any third-party or parties, other than the Releases, arising out of or from injuries or damages to persons or property incurred by the Users in connection with their use of the Wellness and Recreation Equipment and/or participation in any activitiy in The Briar Club where such injuries or damages are caused, directly or indirectly, by such third-parties; or (b) the Club‘s breach of its Warranty under paragraph A. PROVIDED, HOWEVER, IN NO EVENT WILL THE CLUB BE LIABLE TO ANY USER FOR CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. ADDITIONALLY, PROVIDED THE CLUB MAINTAINS LIABILITY INSURANCE COVERAGE OF NOT LESS THAT $1,000,000, IN NO EVENT WILL THE CLUB’S LIABILITY TO A USER EXCEED THE LIABILITY INSURANCE COVERAGE MAINTAINED BY THE CLUB.

I/We certify that I/we have carefully read this Release, understand all of its terms, am/are signing it voluntarily and that I/we have the capacity and authority to sign on behalf of both myself/ourselves and each minor child or ward, if applicable.

General Information

M AY I B R I N G G U E S T S T O T H E C L U B ?

Absolutely! We always welcome you to bring your friends and family to our great club. However, we kindly ask that in accordance with the House Rules, all guests are accompanied by a Member or are participating in a Member-sponsored activity in the Fitness, Swim, Tennis or Youth areas of the Club. Guest fees shall be charged to the Member’s account for the use of the Club’s Aquatics, Tennis and Fitness facilities. Guest fees do not apply for dining-only guest visits.

All Members and guests are required to sign-in at the Security Desk. Extended & pre-arranged guests visits can be organized by contacting our Membership Department at [email protected] or (713) 552-2159.

H O W D O M Y G U E S T S G A I N A C C E S S T O T H E PA R K I N G G A R A G E ?

Guests are free to park just as Members do in our Parking Garage. Guests are asked to drive through the Guest entry lane and tell the guard on duty what brings them to the Club. Guests will still be required to check in at the Pool Security Desk.

M AY I D R O P - O F F M Y C H I L D R E N ?

Per Briar Club House Rules, no children or guest of Members under the age of 12 years shall access or remain at the Club if unaccompanied by a parent or other adult. The Briar Club hosts several Funtastik Camps throughout the year offering parents the option of dropping children ages 5-12 off for a specified event for a specified period of time.

H O U S E H O L D E M P L OY E E S / N A N N I E S

Household employees are permitted access to the Club for the sole purpose of accompanying minor children of a member. Guest fees shall be charged, as appropriate, in the event any such household employee uses Club swim, tennis or fitness facilities. Household employees can be added to your membership by contacting our Membership Department at [email protected] or (713) 552-2159.

POOL SAFE T Y/GUARDIAN RE SPONSIBIL IT Y

• Careful and considerate behavior is asked of all Members and their guests. • Hanging, sitting, or jumping off pool ropes is not permitted. • Kickboards are reserved for Lap Pool use only. • Pool toys such as inner tubes, “noodles”, large floats, water guns and tennis balls are not permitted in the pools and may be removed by the lifeguards at their discretion. • Infants and toddlers must wear waterproof and/or swim diapers in all Club pools & be changed every hour. • Parents and Guardians must accompany and supervise all children 10 and under anytime they are in a pool area. • All children under the age of 5 must be accompanied and supervised at arm’s length by a responsible adult in the Family Pool.• Only children 5 and older may use the pool slide.• Lifeguards do not monitor the Baby Pool. Only children 5 years and under may use the Baby Pool and only when accompanied by a parent/guardian.

L O C K E R R E N TA L S

The Briar Club offers long-term locker rentals in both the Family and Fitness Locker Rooms. Please contact Jon Diller at [email protected] or (713) 552-2126 for locker rental information.

Day Lockers are available for Members and Guests for $2 per day. Please see the Security Desk for Day Locker rentals.

L A P P O O L S W I M M I N GAdults over the age of 18 are permitted to swim in the Competition Lap Pool & Adult Lap Pool during any normal Club operating hours. Children of members who (a) are at least 10 years of age, (b) are actively swimming laps in the Competition Lap Pool, and (c) are supervised by an adult either from the pool deck or next to the child in the water may also use the Competition Lap Pool during normal Club operating hours. We kindly ask that recreational swimming is reserved for the Family Resort Pool, unless otherwise directed by Club management.
