The codes are not getting any simpler. When the complex details of storage height, ceiling height, aisle widths, pallets, bins,

encapsulation, commodities, plastics, etc. make the difference between a bid and a contract, between a proper design or a review

nightmare, you'll be glad SprinkCODE is there to guide you.

Intelligent interactive screens offer the choices needed to quickly and accurately narrow the options for the desired system

density and coverage area, (or special application sprinkler). Within seconds the available options can be displayed for any

NFPA 13 1999 code requirement. NFPA 13 1996, NFPA 231/231C 1995 and 1998 are also referenced.

During the process of selecting the desired hazard options, simply select the NFPA 13 1999 requirement detail and the page of the

code will appear for review or printing.

Job information can be entered at estimate time and used later for the final design — making it easy to

keep the decision process in order and on file.

The Flow Graph option quickly displays the 1.85 Hydraulic Graph and includes options to display flow

test curves, fire pump curves and combined curves as desired.

In the unlikely event that help is ever needed for the operation of SprinkCODE, a

comprehensive Help system is only a click away.

So put away that dog-eared copy of the Code...

a licensed electronic copy of the NFPA 13 1999 code is supplied with SprinkCODE CD. This

enables verification of the options selected in detail, and allows a fresh copy of the applicable

code to be printed.

Welcome to SprinkFDT – The first dramatic advancement in Fire

Protection Technology since the introduction of hydraulically calculatedgridded systems over 30 years ago.

SprinkFDT is the latest software offering from SprinkCAD, a division of Tyco

Fire and Building Products, in Lansdale, PA. SprinkFDT (Fluid Delivery Time)

now empowers a sprinkler designer to accurately predict the time it takes to

trip a dry valve and deliver water to the remote area without the requirement

of a physical trip test (see NFPA 13 2002, chapters 7 and 11).

Simple input and summary screens allow the user to quickly define a

sprinkler system and evaluate the need for an accelerator or design

modification.

SprinkFDT

SprinkFDT uses the same interface and file structure as our powerful SprinkCALC program making hydraulic calculation and delivery time calculation input

even quicker. Simply calculate the system using SprinkCALC and then open SprinkFDT, select the open sprinklers and evaluate the dry system performance.

Many systems that are over the 750 gallon limit can now be installed without the need for a

physical trip test saving thousands of dollars in testing alone. During the development and testing

of SprinkFDT we evaluated properties that could have reduced the number of dry systems

installed had this program been available at design time. We have found that on the evaluated

properties and controlled tests that our calculated results have been within seconds of actual time,

usually with less that 2 seconds difference.

It is as simple as a few keystrokes to evaluate the need for an accelerator on the dry system. Any

manufacturer’s equipment can be evaluated by inputting the trip ratio of the dry valve and/or the

activation parameters for an accelerator.

Throw out the old thinking of dry system performance being based strictly upon the volume of thesprinkler system piping. Traditional wisdom has been to consider the dry system volume only. This

tradition has been proven to be flawed. Till now many other factors have been ignored that greatly

impact the delivery time of water to a fire. The water supply was never a consideration as long as the

system was kept small enough to not require a 60 second trip test. We have found that the water

supply is indeed one of the most critical components of a dry system just as it is in hydraulic

calculations. The path that the water travels to the fire is also critical. A center fed system of 2000

gallons will deliver water after a valve trip in about the same amount of time as an end fed system of

Complete Fire Sprinkler System DesignSprinkCAD 3D is a comprehensive fire sprinkler design package that produces true

three-dimensional piping plans and views. SprinkCAD 3D includes the latestSprinkCALC* and SprinkSLIC* programs giving the designer total control of the

necessary tools to create a complete project. SprinkCAD 3D can also be used with

the optional SprinkFDT* program to calculate the trip and water delivery times for

dry type systems.

Some features of SprinkCAD 3D

SprinkCAD 3D is a TRUE 3D system – everything is designed in 3D-model space. The sprinkler designer can still

work in a 2D plan view and use preset ISO views for viewing, thus making it an easy transition from 2D to 3D for

those new to 3D views. Until now, creating three-dimensional objects in AutoCAD† has been slow and tedious.

SprinkCAD 3D’s tools automate the 3D drawing process and allow sprinkler designers to layout three-dimensional

systems with relative ease.

SprinkCAD 3D is user friendly and intuitive, though flexible and powerful. It has internal intelligence included in

the properties of design elements – sprinklers, pipes, fittings, etc. A powerful linking mechanism allows SprinkCAD

3D to intelligently keep a valid fitting connection while the system is being designed. As pipes are drawn, fittings are automatically assigned andchanged as needed throughout the design process. If the pipe is changed from threaded Schedule 40 to grooved Schedule 10, the fittings are modified

based upon the preferences selected by the designer.

By utilizing and improving object behavior of standard CAD entities, Object Oriented SprinkCAD 3D lets the designer use the entire set of AutoCAD or

IntelliCAD editing functions while keeping "smart" item functionality.

Pro-Active usage of the Paper Space environment promotes developing complex designs in the same drawing file with the ability to create multiple

views that can include plans, profiles, ISO views, and details on single or multiple sheets with various scale factors.

Along with the flexibility of manual design functions, SprinkCAD 3D has a variety of automatic or semi-automatic

features including automated sprinkler layout. Superior object visualization provides the designer with the correct

representation of fittings, valves, and heads, regardless of the viewing

angle. Each object has basic, solid, and "clearance" representation that can be changed globally or partially without

interfering with the design process.

SprinkCAD 3D provides intelligent building and mechanical elements such as walls, columns, structural members,

doors, windows, ducts, and other mechanical equipment. All of these items along with fire protection elements can

be automatically checked for collision and visually highlighted.

The "Smart Annotation" environment makes SprinkCAD 3D superior to similar existing programs. The designer can create any labeling styles desired

and apply them to drawing items – sprinklers, pipes, valves, fittings, etc. This labeling is "smart" enough to self adjust the value and position when the

parent item is moved, modified, or viewed from a different angle.
