SQ-87 History – Maj Joe DiMento is the squadron historian. Joe is putting together brief, two or three paragraph,

and bios of each member. Joe prepared this example:

Major Roy Knight first joined the Civil Air Patrol Senior Squadron, Ft. Worth, Texas, in 1983. In addition

to serving in Texas Wing, he later served in Michigan and finally came to us in California. He spent 22

years with Riverside Squadron 5 as well as two cycles as Commander of that unit. An experienced

Mission Pilot with 4 Distress Finds and many Non-Distress finds to his credit, he has brought a wealth

of leadership experience to our Unit.

In private life, Major Knight has held positions as Owner, National Sales Manager, Vice President of

Sales and Regional Sales Manager of various companies in the sweet goods and chocolate industries.

Please e-mail Maj DiMento at [email protected] and provide your bio. Thank you.

AFJROTC Flights Were A Huge Success – On 23 AUG 2015 SQ-87, SQ-57 & SQ-5 flew 32 AFJROTC

Cadets in 17 sorties with three aircraft. George Watson flew his T-34 in for static display and Maj Rich Lee

brought his ex-CAP C-172 in for aircraft orientation, education and safety briefings. It was a really fun day

at the airport with the energy of high school students. Lt Col Vinny Lostetter was the man of the hour. He

secured the funding for the O-rides, planned them with Maj Knight and Maj Rich Lee, and then stepped

up to the plate with his fine pulled pork. Sq-87 personnel who volunteered for this evolution were Maj

Roy Knight, Maj Rich Lee, Capt Steve Parker, 2d Lt Roxanne Parker, 2d Lt Richard Giroux, 2d Lt Bill

Ulmer, and 2d Lt Jerry Camp. Maj David Wallace and 1Lt Shelton came from SQ-57 and Capt Terry Pratt

flew a G100 206 down from SQ-5 for the flights. Thank you to all who made this great day possible.
