    Substation & Feeder Management for

Optimizing Revenue Substation is the Control Centre of O & M

    of a Distribution System

It is like the Brain of the Central Nervous System

    Substation & Feeder Management for

    Optimizing RevenueFunctions of Distribution Substations-

Substations are designed to accomplish the following functions, although notall substations have all these functions:

Change voltage from one level to another

Regulate voltage to compensate for system voltage changes

Switch transmission and distribution circuits into and out of the grid system

Measure electric power qualities flowing in the circuits

Connect communication signals to the circuits

Eliminate lightning and other electrical surges from the system

Connect electric generation plants to the system

Make interconnections between the electric systems of more than one utility

Control reactive kilovolt-amperes supplied to and the flow of reactivekilovolt-amperes in the circuits

    Substation & Feeder Management for

    Optimizing Revenue

In a Distribution Network, Substations are

    of 2 Types-

    Power (Trf) Substations

    Distribution (Trf) Substations

Substation & Feeder Management forOptimizing Revenue Power Transformers-

    Generally 33/11 KV

    Capacity (MVA)- 1.6, 3.15, 5, 8

Location- Ideally, Power transformers should belocated at places with the following factors intoconsideration-Line Loss in 33 KV Feeders is Minimum

Line Loss in 11 KV Feeders is Minimum

Power Supply Quality (Voltage) is maintained

    Substation & Feeder Management for

    Optimizing Revenue Distribution Transformers-

    Generally 33/11 KV

    Capacity (KVA)-

    Single Phase- 10,16

    Three Phase- 25,63,100,250,315,500

Location- Ideally, DTRs should be located at places with thefollowing factors into consideration-

Line Loss in 11 KV Feeders is Minimum

Line Loss in LT Line is Minimum

Power Supply Quality (Voltage) is maintained

Revenues can be optimized by way of proper

    Feeder and Substation Management

In case of high loss making feeders the priority

may be given in load shedding while handlingpower shortage

    Reorientation of feeders, substations and

    upgradation can further help improving

revenues Installation of proper capacity of capacitors

In ABT(Availability Base Tariff) regime, by

    managing feeder/ substation load, revenue

    can be im roved

Optimisation of revenue- through feederand substation management

    Industrial Feeder

For Carrying out Energy Accounting & Audit, Metering of 11 KV Feedersat the source of 11 KV Feeders at 33/11 KV Substation and at all theDTRs and 11 KV Consumers is a must.

LT Lines emanate from 11/0.4 KV Distribution

    Substations

For Carrying out Energy Accounting & Audit of LT

Lines, Metering at the source of LT Line and

    Consumers is a must.

    Substation & Feeder Management for

    Optimizing RevenueSTEP-I

For Optimum Revenue Realization we need to know the Substations(Power & Distribution) & Feeders (33 KV, 11 KV, LT Lines) where theAT&C Losses are high.

    STEP-II

The AT&C Losses should be bifurcated into Technical Losses andCommercial Losses.

    Substation & Feeder Management for

    Optimizing Revenue

    STEP-II

For Improving Technical Losses-Focus on Improvement in Billing

By Reduction of Theft in HT Consumers

Strengthening MRT, Conducting Raids, Repeated Checking, Strict actionagainst Dishonest Consumers.

By Reduction of Theft in LT Consumers

By Strengthening Vigilance Wing, Conducting raids, Load Surveys, Strict actionagainst Dishonest Consumers

By Monitoring of Spot Billing activities

Focus on Improvement in T&D LossesBy Reduction of Line Losses in 33 KV &11 KV Feeders and LT Lines

Reduction of Transformer Losses in 33/11 KV Trfs and in DTRs.

    Substation & Feeder Management for

Optimizing RevenueIT Systems are available for Real-Time Visibility and Operation of Substations.

Such Systems can be Tailored to adapt to Distribution System Network for Trackingof Exceptional Events like Failures of Lines & Equipments & Overloads.

With Increased Visibility of System Network and Remote Operation facilities, wecan design the system such that in High Revenue fetching areas the power supplyquality is the best.

Decision with regard to operation of lines can be Programmed in a preset PriorityBasis such that the Power Supply can be restored in minimum possible time for

areas which have Low Losses and High Revenue Potential.
