March 29, 2015

Dear Parishioners,

As you already know I had the amazing privilege to travel on a service trip to El Salvador with 34 students from Seton Hall University. These students were brave enough to leave their comfort zone in order to go and serve the senior citizens, the orphans, children with special needs, and the homeless. In other words they were following Christ in those who suffer much. Many times we complain about the faith situation of our young people but in reality there is hope, faith, and a great desire to give in the heart of the youth. They want to know Christ in a personal way, and they want to follow him in those who suffer the most and that's what Palm Sunday is all about: Palm Sunday is not about the palms, it is about following Christ in humility, service, in suffering, and definitely in many moments of Joy. We follow him and praise him in every little thing we do for the other; and even better if we do it without complaining. I want to thank you very much for your support to the students, for your prayers and for your constant faith which has helped you follow Christ at every moment of his life: in his birth, his ministry to the poor, in his way to the cross, and finally in his proclamation of his Kingdom of peace and life. Finally I want to share a poem by Kay Hoffman which beautifully states Jesus' triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, and I hope that one day you and I will enter into the eternal city in Heaven. Here it is:

They wave palm branches as he passed

And hailed Him as their king; Yet, they knew not of the sorrow

The coming week would bring.

The glad acclaim would soon give way

To jeers and mockery; In Pilate's court He' d be condemned

To a cross on Calvary.

But Jesus knew He was the price

In God's redemptive plan, The Sacrificial Lamb come down

To die for sins of man.

On this day we shout our praise, O' let us not delay;

The palm-strew path of long ago

Still lead to Him today.

Blessings & let us embrace our cross with peace in Christ, Fr. Mino
