Message from the Pastor Welcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to join us today to celebrate The First Sunday of Lent. The first Sunday of the season of Lent always includes a Gospel account of the temptation of the Lord Jesus in the desert by the devil. This year, the story is set against the backdrop of the first reading from Genesis, which recounts the very first temptation by the devil. That story is set in a garden of delight. The Gospel story is set in the desert. As believers, we know that temptation comes our way in our own gardens of delight as well as the deserts of our lives. As Lent begins, our attention is drawn to that temptation within each of us to become like God—we want control, power, and answers to all of life’s difficult questions. As communities of faith, we are given this season of repentance so that we can join our hearts with others on the difficult journey of conversion. We look to God and to one another for strength against temptation. Everyday when we wake up we choose what path to take. Choose to be happy—attitude is everything! Go out and make it a great week.

May God bless you always.

PASTOR’S MUSING An Irishman is struggling through a winter storm with a friend when he collapses clutching his heart. "Quick," says the Irishman. "I'm dying. Get me a Rabbi." "What do you mean, a Rabbi?" says his friend. "You've been a Catholic all your life." "I know," says the Irishman. "But I wouldn't like to drag the Father out on a night like this."

Thank You!!! We thank you for your spectacular generosity.

Your generous support of our Parish and your help with the needs of our community through your ongoing participation in our various min-

istries is greatly appreciated! February 22nd & 23rd, 2020—$23,586.00

Second Collection—$5,276.00 Second Collections

Each weekend at St. Ambrose we have second collection at our Masses. Those collections have two purposes. Once each month the Archbishop designates a second collection for different

needs (example: Peter’s Pence, Retired Religious, Seminary Burse). The rest of these collections are to

meet the special needs of our Parish and School.

Fighting Hunger: One Rice Bowl at A Time Every Lent, millions of Catholics participate in CRS Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services' annual Lenten program, which begins on Ash Wednesday. Catholic families, parishes and schools from more than 13,000 communities use symbolic cardboard "rice bowls" as the focal point of their prayer, fasting and learning—and to help people in poverty around the world. Participants in CRS Rice Bowl make a small sacrifice every week, putting the change they would have spent on food into symbolic rice bowls. That money goes to support CRS' mission to fight global hunger and poverty. Helping people in need through fasting and almsgiving is a big component of CRS Rice Bowl, but the program also encourages Catholics to

help others through prayer and by learning about the factors that cause hunger. Last year, participants raised more than $7 million for CRS Rice Bowl, 75 percent of which is used to fund projects in 40 countries. The remaining 25 percent stays in U.S. dioceses to sup-port food pantries and soup kitchens.
