Message from the Pastor Welcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to join us today to celebrate The Epiphany of the Lord. Epiphany can be understood as an extension of the Nativity of the Lord that we celebrate on December 25. While at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish people, on Epiphany we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it attracts magi who come from far distant countries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The letter to the Ephesians reveals that the Light of the world was for the Gentiles as well as the Jews—Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. The reading from Isaiah also describes a gathering of diverse peoples, but this time it is to the light that emanates from the people of God.

Have a great week—stay well—and keep smiling! May God bless you always.

PASTOR’S MUSING During election time, a politician decided to go out to the local reservation to gather support from the Native Americans. They were all assembled in the Council Hall to hear the speech. The politician had worked up to his finale, and the crowd was getting more and more excited. “I promise better education opportunities for Native Americans!” The crowd went wild, shouting, “Hoya! Hoya! The politician was a bit puzzled by the native word, but was encouraged by their enthusiasm. “I promise gambling reforms to allow a Casino on the Reservation!” “Hoya! Hoya!” cried the crowd, stomping their feet. “I promise more social reforms and job opportunities for Native Americans!” The crowd reached a frenzied pitch shouting, “Hoya! Hoya! Hoya!” After the speech, the politician was touring the reservation, and saw a tremendous herd of cattle. Since he was raised on a ranch, and knew a bit about cows, he asked the Chief if he could get closer to take a look. “Sure,” the Chief said, “but be careful not to step in the hoya.”

After Christmas Thoughts There comes this time,

But once a year, when trees come down

and lights go out and angels fly away. Crib sets are packed, the figures wrapped to wait another day.

After all, they are not real; Decorations for a Season; Sadly often packed away the underlying Reason.

Christ came not for decoration to live in story, or carols rhyme;

but to be a Hope enduring; a Love beyond all time.

Now again the Season’s over; Think why was it at all

and remember every day what started in that Stall.

- Fr. Charles O. Peterman

Today’s Thought: Remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, look forward to the future with confidence. —Saint John Paul II

CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players showcases a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of western civilization. St. Francis of Assisi, the Reformer, radically and literally lived as Jesus commanded to transform the Church. St. Thomas Aquinas, the Theologian, demonstrated that faith and reason at not at odds, as they come from the same source. St. Catherine of Siena, the Mystic, gave testimony to the reality of the spiritual dimension here and beyond.

St. John Henry Newman, the Convert, left a prestigious career to seek and preach the apostolic faith. G.K. Chesterton, the Evangelist, publicly, humbly, and humorously announced the paradoxes and truth of Christianity. Michelangelo, the Artist, dramatically demonstrated that beauty and creativity are a primary route of access to God.

Journey with Bishop Barron to explore the lasting influence of these Pivotal Players. Our parish journey begins on Tuesday, January 7, and you can register at the parish office. For more information, Contact Deacon Randy Millikin, 954-560-4027 or [email protected].

”I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is “Abortion“, because it is a war against the child… A direct killing of the innocent child, “Murder” by the mother herself… And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must

persuade her with love… And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts…” – St. Mother Teresa

Marriage Preparation All registered couples who wish to be married in a Catholic ceremony in Saint Ambrose church must first meet with Father Dariusz or Father James in preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage. It is advisable that couples not set a firm date for the wedding until they have attended this meeting. Individual appointments and confirmed dates

SAINT AMBROSE FOOD PANTRY Thank you to our Food Pantry Volunteers. Every Thursday morning from 8 am to 10 am, distributing food to the needy and homeless of our area. Thanks to all who respond so generously to our

requests. Although many answer our call, the need is still great. Please remember the food baskets and poor boxes as you leave Church. The poor and needy are always among us. Thank you for caring.

PARKING – HELP! We know parking becomes more difficult during the season and even worse during the Carnival but we need your help. Please park only in designated parking spaces. Do not block entrances or exits. Please do not block the entrances to the basketball court, and leave the designated handicapped parking spaces for those who are truly handicapped!
