DREAMS, VISIONS, NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES

PRESENTER: SISTER KAREN NYKIEL, O.S.B.

TUESDAYS MARCH 17, 24, 31 AND APRIL 7 9:30-11:00 AM

Dreams and visions abound in Sacred Scripture. We will explore together how God revealed God’s message to our ancestors and how God continues to speak to us in our Dreams and Visions. In addition, we will also attempt to un-derstand “near-death experiences”. We dream every night yet most of the time we have no idea that a message could be discerned in and among the various signs and symbols we remember in our wake state. Add to this the number of “near death experiences” documented that seem to give a glimpse into the next life.

Programs take place in the 2nd floor Chapter Room, Sacred Heart Monastery,

1910 Maple Avenue in Lisle.

THE MAN OF THE SHROUD EXHIBIT

Could an ancient Jewish linen cloth be the actual burial shroud of Jesus?

St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield will be hosting the Man of the Shroud Exhibit which displays an exact replica of the Shroud of Turin, believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. The image is more than 14 feet long and 3 feet wide and shows the front and back images of the Shroud. The exhibit also presents the results of a comprehensive scientific and forensic study through photos and illustrations. Come and learn more about one of the most scientifically studied religious icons in history and spend time reflecting on the Passion of Christ. VIEWING TIMES:

Be Kind and Merciful 2020 Catholic Ministries

Appeal We are pleased that so many parishioners have already pledged a gift to the 2020 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA). Your support will allow us to Be Kind and Merciful, as, together, we do God’s work here on earth.

Every gift brings us closer to our parish’s 2020 CMAA goal of $67,500. If we raise more than our goal, 70% of the amount over goal will be returned to us for our needs. This is an amazing opportunity for our parish.

Please prayerfully reflect on your pledge to this year’s CMAA and make your gift today. Pledge envelopes are available in the church. You can also return the pledge card you received in the mail from the diocese, make a gift online at jolietdioceseappeal.org or text “Donate” to (815) 205-1949 from your mobile phone.

At 20 years old, “Karen” and her boyfriend “John” have already faced pregnancy difficulties together and this has been a cause for fear. In fact, Karen’s pregnancy history scares her so much that having an abortion seemed like her best option. She had a previous C-section at 23 weeks and lost the baby. They also have a three-year-old daughter after another high-risk pregnancy. On top of all that, Karen is starting a new “dream job” that will require all of her attention.

At their first ultrasound, the baby was very clearly seen. Karen’s response was “I’m undecided. I am further along than I expected to be.”

When she returned for her second ultrasound appointment, Karen was 13 weeks pregnant. She told us that she and John had changed their minds and decided not to have the abortion!

During the ultrasound Karen marveled, “I’m excited. I didn’t realize how big the baby was last time.” The couple was amazed at the baby’s heartbeat and movement. She and John happily accepted pictures of that ultrasound.

After their clinic visit, an Aspire Resource Specialist met with Karen. Given her medical history, the number one priority was to make sure Karen has insurance coverage during this pregnancy. She and the Resource Specialist worked together to research her current insurance under her employer and whether or not she could make changes outside of the enrollment period now that she is pregnant.

Karen and John returned for a third visit a week later and report being excited about this pregnancy and are ready to begin care under her OB/GYN. The Resource Specialist will continue their relationship by checking in on Karen from time to time, letting her know that Waterleaf cares.

SAVE THE DATE

The School Gala will be held at Crystal Grand Banquets, on

Saturday, April 25. Information on how to purchase tickets will be

coming soon. Also, donations for the raffle baskets are greatly appreciated. You will receive a tax receipt when you donate any items to the school. You can contact the school office

with any questions at [email protected].

Do you wear shoes? Do you have family or friends that wear

shoes? Do you work with people that wear shoes?

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions – this is for you!

During March and April we will be collecting gently worn shoes to raise money for our school. Our goal is to collect 2500 shoes – and YOU can help! Check your closets, talk to your friends and family, talk to your co-workers! Bring your gently worn shoes to the school office during school hours-or drop them in front of the door in a bag.

SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

RCIA is a faith formation process for adult seekers, both unbaptized and baptized Christians and baptized Catholics, who seek to complete their initiation sacraments (Holy Communion and Confirmation). For more information, contact Barb Sanders at the Adult Faith Formation Office:

815-886-4165 X308 or [email protected]

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the Baptism of children on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m. The requirements are: to be registered in the parish and have an active participation in our parish community for at least 3 months. Register at the parish office for the Baptismal prep class, which is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m., in the school hall. It is important to notify the parish office with the date that you will be attending the class.

FIRST COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION

Please see page 9 in the bulletin for Faith Formation information regarding preparation for these important sacraments.

MARRIAGE REQUIREMENTS

Diocese requirements include a formal engagement preparation period of at least six months before the date of the weddings and attendance in a marriage preparation program. St. Andrew requires either the bride, groom, or parents of either to be registered as parishioners for at least three months before contacting us to set a date. There are a number of additional requirements. Please contact the Parish Office for additional information.

FUNERALS

Arrangements for a funeral are usually made through the Funeral Director at a funeral home of your choice.

PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK

Hospitals do not inform churches when parishioners are patients. You should ask an immediate family member to contact the Parish Office to request a visit from a priest when sickness occurs or death is imminent. Please contact Barb Sanders to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick at home, to a hospital, or nursing home.

I would like to have my house blessed.

Please contact me to make arrangements.
