Theological Questions

Last week’s question: Who were the first seven Deacons? Why were they chosen?

Answer:

“At that time, as the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their wid-ows were being neglected in the daily distribution. So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” The proposal was acceptable to the whole commu-nity, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas,

and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid hands on them” (Acts 6:1-6).

Help Hurricane Harvey Victims St. Andrew the Apostle Parish is partnering with St. Edward Par-ish in Spring, Texas to help Hurricane Harvey victims in a more personal way. We will be collecting gift cards in $25 (or less) denominations for Home Depot, Lowes, Kohls, Wal-Mart and Marshalls/Home Goods and sending them directly to St. Ed-ward’s Parish to distribute as needed. Please do not purchase one large denomination gift card…instead purchase two for a lesser amount each. This allows help to be given to more people. Bring your gift card to the parish office, drop it in the offertory collection basket, or place it in the specially-marked box in the vestibule of the church. Thank you if you have already contrib-uted to the hurricane relief effort through another charity, but if you are able to contribute to this effort, the parishioners of St. Edwards and their community are very grateful for your help and for your prayers.

Participate in Eucharistic Adoration which will take place until 5:00 pm; if only for a few minutes.

Venerate the statue of Our Lady of Fatima which will be solemnly exposed for public veneration in our church. (Remember, Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence for the 100th anniversary of Fatima apparitions throughout the centennial year, from the 27th of November 2016 till the 26th of November 2017).
