Prayers for the ChurchAnglicanChurchinNorthAmerica:The Rev. Jay Behan, Chairman, and the members of the Gafcon Branch in New Zealand.

Several years ago, conservative members of the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia, concerned about increasingly liberal trends within the church, began to meet as the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans in New Zealand (FCANZ). The meetings gained impetus last year when the General Synod of the church approved granting permission to bless same- sex relationships. (The same approval also covers the blessing of unmarried persons in committed heterosexual relationships.) The FCANZ has now become the Gafcon (Global Anglican Future Conference) Branch in New Zealand and includes both those who have disaffiliated from the national church and those who have chosen to remain within the national church as dissidents.

Gafcon itself now includes 11 Anglican provinces (ACNA, Brazil, Congo, Kenya, Myanmar, Nigeria, Rwanda, South America, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda) and five regional branches (Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom), together including the great majority of the world’s 85 million Anglicans.

In 2018, Gafcon reported that about 500 Anglicans had attended organizational conferences throughout the New Zealand and Polynesia region. The Gafcon branch in New Zealand now seeks to form an Extra-provincial Diocese to serve its members. It is now led by a Trustees Board of eight men and women. (Source: Gafcon sites.)

Please pray especially for ongoing evangelism, church planting, and for the diocese in formation.

Encouragement for your prayer time with God Nothing that I face in life will hinder God’s ability to help me. “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.” (Psalm 18:16) “But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.” (Romans 8:10) — From the St. Andrew’s Prayer Ministries Team

Services livestreamed on TwitterAs another way to reach out to our community with the Good News of God in Christ, we are now livestreaming our 11:15 a.m. service (and sometimes our 9 a.m. service) on our Twitter account — twitter.com/standrewsnet. This is a wonderful opportunity to share the music, message, and rich tradition of Anglican worship, so that folks who might not be able to get out to attend church can worship with us from home.

Easter egg hunt April 20; stuffings needed Plans are underway for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Holy Saturday, April 20, at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the church. Bring your friends and family, and join the fun!

We need your help providing small individually wrapped candies or small items, perhaps Christian-themed, to place inside the eggs. If you have items to donate please bring them to the Lenten Study Program this coming Tuesday, or to church next Sunday.

Thank you for helping us provide this event for our children, and for families in the community!

Service at Inn at Bear Trail Holy SaturdaySt. Andrew’s will bless the residents of the Inn at Bear Trail, an assisted living facility less than a mile from the church on South Old State Road, by leading an Easter service on Holy Saturday, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Fr. Wil Verhoff will officiate, and musicians from St. Andrew’s, including Ann Schnapp, Lori Cornett, and Amanda Oxenham will perform. Ministries that bless others give first quarter reportsFood MinistryFrom January through March, the St. Andrew’s Food Ministry has blessed people with a variety of food donations. The ministry has given away 251 small containers (16 oz.) of soup; 51 lasagna meals (lasagna, veggies, and potatoes); 59 large containers (24 oz.) of soup; 12 small containers of pasta sauce; one container of mashed potatoes, and eight bags of soup!

Our growing food ministry has meals ready for distribution to those who need them. These meals are ideal for people living alone, going through a time of financial hardship, recovering from surgery or illness, or who have had a death in their family. Rachel Cherubini, Food Ministry coordinator, is also working with local schools and organizations to distribute meals through those channels.

The ministry is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals on Fridays, as well as people willing to deliver meals. To volunteer to help with the ministry, to request a meal for yourself or others, or if you know of organizations that could benefit from the Food Ministry’s services, please contact Rachel at [email protected] or 740-548-5112, ext. 1.

Shawl MinistryIn the same quarter, the St. Andrew’s Shawl Ministry has given away 11 shawls, one baby blanket, 24 hats, and three scarves. In addition, coordinator Rachel Cherubini and her crew have almost 60 hats banked for next winter, and about 10 scarves and 15 pairs of gloves!

“Praise God for his continued blessings upon us and for his guidance to do his will!” Rachel says.

Holy Week begins next Sunday, April 14, with the celebration of Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, known as Palm — or Passion — Sunday. The palms we carry and the tone of the service signify this note of triumph, yet there is that underlying theme of sadness that permeates the service, emphasized most especially in the reading of the Passion Narrative.

With the blessing and distribution of the palms, we will begin our journey through Holy Week. We will trace the footsteps of our Savior through the streets of Jerusalem, to the upper room where the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist was initiated. We will stand by helplessly during the arrest, and then march to the Cross and the pain of Good Friday. We will experience the despair of Holy Saturday and the vigil of hope in the Resurrection of Easter Day on the eve of that hallowed festival.

We journey with our Savior because we seem, in him, to find resurrection to a new life; a life of grace. If you would

experience the true joy of the Resurrection on Easter Day, you must walk the pilgrimage of Holy Week. Make a commitment to yourself now that you will faithfully attend Holy Week services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Walk the road to Calvary and beyond. Experience the sufferings of our Lord and his disciples.

Experience the joy that the new life of the Resurrection meant for them, and claim it as a reality for your own life!
