Volume 27 Number 12 St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Lake Worth, Florida January 2016 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, For folks like me who grew up reading the novel “1984” in school and watch- ing the movie “2001” in theaters it is amazing to be entering the year on our calendar marked “2016”! What seemed like the distant future in the 60’s and 70’s is now the present. As the old saying goes, “If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself”. Although, truth be told I’m in pretty good shape for the shape I’m in. And while thanksgiving in long past, I realize I have much to be grateful for and I do thank God every day for the life I am living. At the same time I am aware that maybe we haven’t been doing such a good job of taking care of the world we live in and that sustains us. I know that many of us try to do our little part with recycling and bringing our reusable bags to the grocery store, but there is so much more that needs to be done. Recalling the Book of Genesis, I am reminded of the responsibility to be stewards of God’s creation. The beauty and wonder and majesty of our earth is truly beyond words and a gift from God that is immeasurable. What can each of us do to take our part in honoring the invaluable gift? As we move into the 102nd year of the life of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, let us give some thought to stewardship in three areas. First, of course, is the stewardship of God’s creation not only in our personal lives, but as a par- ish as well. Second, may we continue to find ways to care for God’s people near and far and how we might better serve those that God puts in our daily lives. We recognize that each person is a unique and loved creature of God and de- serves our love as well. Finally, let us be mindful of the time, talent, and treasure that God has blessed us with and pray for the knowledge of how God would have us use these gifts and then give us the power to carry out that will in our daily lives. May this new year be filled with God’s love and grace for us and for all God’s people. Father Paul+ ST. ANDREW’S ST. ANDREW’S ST. WAY CAFÉ

The feeding Program at Calvary United Methodist Church is every Saturday of each month. We need to have 12 vol-unteers each Saturday at 2:30PM. We are grateful that this program will continue to feed hungry people in our commu-nity. Call Joy Bayrouty if you can help (642-1527).

JANUARY TAIZE WORSHIP

On the third Saturday of January our 6pm service offers the beauty of contemplative Taize music with healing pray-ers and communion. All are invited and welcome.

The Feast of the Epiphany

The name “Epiphany” is derived from a Greek word meaning “manifestation” or “appearing.” Anglican Prayer Books interpret the word with an alternative title, “The Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles.” The last phrase, of course, is a reference to the story of the Wise Men from the East. The feast combined commemorations of the visit of the Magi, led by the star of Bethlehem; the Baptism of Jesus in the waters of the River Jordan; and Jesus’ first recorded miracle, the changing of water into wine at the marriage of Cana of Galilee — all thought of as manifestations of the incarnate Lord.

VESTRY NEWS Our next meeting is on Tuesday, January 24th at 7PM. A reminder that our financials are posted on the Bulletin Board in the Parish Hall hallway each month.

INTEGRITY OF PALM BEACH

January Meeting

Integrity—Palm Beach, a parish activity open to all, invites everyone to join us on the second Saturday, of each month at 7:00PM. Integrity-Palm Beach is the first and only chapter of Integrity in Palm Beach Coun-ty. Throughout its ten years of existence, it has wel-comed a number of speakers and guest clergy at monthly meetings. Integrity has also been a consistent presence in the community, inviting all people into the life of St. An-drew’s and thereby fulfilling the parish’s stated mission: To Share the Love of Christ in Word and Deed with all God’s Children. Our next meeting will be on Saturday, January 9th fol-lowing the 6PM service.

JUSTICE MINISTRY

Calling all committed and potential Network members to our parish meeting on Wednesday, January 13th at 7pm. This is an important gathering to update you on our issues, to begin thinking about who you will bring to the Action, and hear about how to invest in our justice ministry work. Our next big get to-gether is the Rally on Monday, February 22nd at 7PM. Nehe-miah Action on Monday, March 14th at 7PM.

UNSUNG HEROS Justice Network Members: Our ability to do Justice in Palm Beach County hinges on the work of all those who agree to be Justice Network members: attending our main assemblies, bringing three people with them to the Action, and investing financially in this im-portant work. God bless you all!

FROM THE CHURCH OFFICE

The office is open from 9AM to 1PM Monday through Friday. The deadline for notes and/or announcements for the Sunday Bulletin is Wednesday at noon. If it is after noon, you can leave a message on the church telephone, 582-6609 or leave an e-mail at [email protected]. The bulletin is printed on Thursday and the wonderful “Church Ladies” come in and fold and stuff them on Friday mornings. Keep in mind that the Prayer request list will begin anew each month. If you want the prayer requests to stay on the list for longer, just indicate that when getting the infor-mation to the office. The newsletter deadline for the February newsletter is January 20th. If you know of any events you would like to put in the newsletter or articles of interest, please e-mail them to the office. The Altar flower memorial and bequest form is in the Parish Hall. Suggested donation for this is $60. Thanks to all of you this year for your generosity and dedication for sponsoring the altar flowers. If you would like to have envelopes for your donations, please let the office know. Writing your envelope number on your check helps the accuracy of our bookkeeping.
