St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God
to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,
united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,
we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Women’s Club The St. Ann Women’s Club will hold its first meeting of the fall on Thursday, September 20 in the Narthex at 7:00 p.m. We would love for all women of the parish to join us―age is no factor! Our first meeting will be a lot of fun and a good way to get to know one another. We do have a lot to offer each other, so please come and join us! For further information, contact Margaret Sciackitano at 895-1194. Hope to see you there!
Dear Parishioners:
This summer you were asked to participate in a survey concerning the possibility of changing the Saturday even-ing Mass time. At each of the Masses that weekend, I asked you to complete the survey indicating your prefer-ence of either a Saturday evening 4:00 p.m. Mass or the current 5:00 p.m. Mass.
Why 4:00 p.m.? Many parishioners have often comment-ed to me about how dark the Church seems, mostly in the winter months when sunset is earlier. We already have maximum capacity light bulbs in the ceiling fixtures so there are few affordable options to brighten the Church during these times. Some suggested an earlier Mass, and initially I was not sure that would be a good solution. When I brought this up in a staff meeting, my staff thought it could be a viable solution and suggested poll-ing the congregation.
The results of the survey did not provide a completely clear preference. Making important changes that affect you is a duty I take seriously as your Pastor. After care-ful consideration, I think we need to explore this further. Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent (December 1 & 2) we will move the Mass time on Saturday evening to 4:00 p.m. For now, I am considering this a “pilot pro-gram” on a trial basis. We will change back to 5:00 p.m. Masses after Easter in April 2013.
This change means we will now schedule weddings to begin at 2:00 p.m. instead of 2:30 p.m. and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will now be offered at 3:00 p.m. on Sat-urdays. After Easter, we will evaluate this trial and re-poll you at the weekend Masses for your input.
Blessings,
Fr. Bill

Parish Transformation Team
BUILDING BLOCKS OF THE PARISH
I discussed the background of the Parish Mission Plan in the last article. This week I will discuss the three focus areas of Evangelization, Catechesis and Missionary Spirit, which as per the Archdiocese of Chicago Parish Transformation Mission also refers to as the building blocks of parish life. They are “the core foundations for all parishes through which they carry out the mission and ministry of Christ and grow in his likeness.” The Parish Transformation Team studied all seven of these building blocks―Call to Holiness, Spiritual Stewardship, Evan-gelization, Prayer and Worship, Communion, Catech-esis, Missionary Spirit and Evangelization―and decided on the latter three to focus on as they created their mis-sion action plans.
Catechesis is the education of all parishioners in the Faith of the Church. As the Parish Transformation Team learned in developing its mission action plans, “Catechesis helps us to know the person, the message, and the mission of Christ so that our entire lives are Christ-centered.” Our various ministries help us to inte-grate the Gospel and the teachings of the Church into a spirituality we can live by in our everyday lives.
Evangelization is not only offering the word of Christ and his Gospel, but gives compelling witness to the liv-ing Christ in giving an explanation of our faith in God. When we evangelize, we give testimony to our faith in our lives and in fulfillment of Christ’s command.
The act of moving beyond your own needs and serving others in the name of Jesus is defined as Missionary Spirit. People often think of missionary work as going out to other lands to teach or live God’s word, but our missionary spirit can be shown right here in our own St. Ann community through the work of our many minis-tries, and by extending our missionary spirit out into the nearby communities.
It is these three building blocks or focus areas, Catech-esis, Evangelization and Missionary Spirit, which define our mission action plan. The action plan is made up of activities through which our St. Ann motto, A Future Full of Hope, is carried out to our church community and nearby communities. For example, one of our activities/programs under catechesis is to provide resource links on the website, and another is to create a resource library.
In my next article I will discuss the activities/programs of the mission action plan.
