Dear Parishioners:

We welcome Father Shimit back!

Thank you to everyone for Raising the sails on

our Building Fund & listening to the point presenta-

tion last weekend; attending Ash Wednesday; Soup

& Share & the brainstorm session on fund-

raising.

Our Finance Committee has enclosed the

Revenue & Expense Statement for 2019.

STAR Catholic School Division is marking

their 25th anniversary by celebrating with cake after

mass! School Trustee, Dan Svitich dropped off a

cake for everyone to enjoy along with our Knights of

Columbus pancakes.

Lent has two major purposes: It recalls or pre-

pares for baptism, and emphasizes a spirit of pen-

ance. Through 40 days of closer attention to God’s

Word and of more fervent prayer, believers are prepared

to celebrate the Paschal Mystery.

Lent instructions stress these baptismal and peniten-

tial themes. During Lent, it is important to teach the social

consequences of sin as well as the fact that the heart of

the virtue of penance is hatred of sin as an offence

against God.

The Church encourages penitential practices that are

external and social, reflecting the circumstances of

individuals and communities, as we pray and do penance

for sinners. Some forms of penance may be fasting,

almsgiving, prayer and works of mercy.

Christian Fasting: The Paschal Fast is observed on Good Friday, and where possible, continued through Holy Saturday. In the Roman Rite, including in Canada, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and of abstinence from meat. Christian fasting is a penitential discipline intend-ed to open our hearts to God and others, a means of purification and spiritual liberation, a witness of the depth of our faith. The law of “abstinence from meat” binds those who are 14 and older; the law of “fasting” binds those from 18 to 59 years of age. Fridays are days of abstinence from meat, but Catho-lics may substitute special acts of charity or piety on this day. The Pre-Authorized funds will be deposited directly into the

parish bank account. Pre-authorized withdrawals will come out

of your bank account on the last banking day of the month. You

donate to. Pre-Authorized donations provides you the

convenience of not having to write cheques or find cash each

Sunday; allows you to support the parish when you are away

parish benefits from the steady and anticipated revenue

and saves time in counting and banking cash and cheques.

green form along with a void cheque in a sealed envelope in the

collection basket, by mail or in person to the office.
