Howdy, Last week I mentioned that in this Lenten season I wanted to comment on our liturgical celebrations, not as criticism but to strengthen us and our awareness of the importance of our roles. Sometimes you see more than one priest at the altar, a celebrant and a “concelebrant”. You may notice that each of us has a role in the liturgy. Of course, when there is a deacon with us our roles change a little.

In our society it is easy to assume that your role is that of an audience; which is totally incorrect. Liturgy is not a show being put on by the clergy and various other ministers, everyone present has an important role. At your baptism each of you were baptized “priest, prophet, and king”. You each share in the priesthood of Jesus Christ in some way.

At our liturgies, your role is as important as any other role, maybe not in front but still important. Each response, spoken or sung, each gesture is a sign of our participation in the Body of Christ. May each have a blessed Lent,

Father Mike

Father Michael Straley

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, St. Joseph,

do assist me by your powerful intercession, and

obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage

to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not

approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask him to return the Kiss when I

draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls -

Pray for me.

Five Months: Our baby is five months old and half way to birth. He is very active. Sleep habits develop and his mother can feel him move

and stretch, particularly when she is resting. He is getting bigger, weighing one pound, is about 12 inches ‘tall’ and is strong enough to kick against the outer uterine wall and dent it. Some day he may play soccer! Up to now, although he swam with ease I his watery world, he was too small for his mother to detect because the inside wall of the uterus has no feeling. Babies born at this time have survived however.
