Middle School Youth! Come and join us for the following Edge Events:
9/9 - "Back to the Beach" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - This is our Fall kick-off event! It marks the beginning of our Semester on the "The Church." Hope you can join us!
9/23 - "In the House" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - What House did Jesus build? Why did He build it? How does His House impact you today?
10/14 - "Why Be Catholic?" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - What is a Catholic? What does it mean to say you are Catholic? Why should you be Catholic if it's not popular?
High School Teens! Come and join us for the following Life Teen Events:
9/8 - "Catholic Double Dare” (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - This is our Fall kick-off event! It marks the beginning of our Semester on "The Mass." Hope to see you all there!
9/22 - "Sunday Best” (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - Why does the Church say you have to go to Mass? Why can't you just pray to God on your own instead? What do you gain from it?
10/13 - "Divine Music” (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - What's the purpose of music? Why is there music during Mass? What is Divine Music and what does it have to do with your life?

Registration for the fall semester of Elementary Faith Formation classes, the EDGE for Middle School, Life Teen for High School students and Children and Teen choirs began the week end of August 10th/11th. classes are filling up quickly so please register your children and teens soon.
We will be around this week end for late registrations and you can also register in the Office through the week. Classes begin the week of September 9th. There is information on all programs and opportunities for the 2019-2020 year on the website and in the Church and Parish Office.
Please let me know if you are interested in serving as a catechist for any grade level. We need teachers of the faith of all ages and for all ages! We look forward to another wonderful year of faith formation and sacrament preparation with all of our families at St. Bernard’s!

Safe Environment News
All Volunteers in any Parish Ministry please note:
It is time once again to begin renewal for Safe Environment for all of our volunteers. Renewal became available online beginning July 1st. There are many changes to the safe environment process in the Diocese of Phoenix this year. There are fliers in the Church foyer and the Parish Office with an explanation of how to access the new website. It is very important that you not create a new account with CMG. Go to the website phoenixCMGconnect.org and enter your Firstname.Lastname.dop as your user name. Use 1234 as a password and it will prompt you to create your own more secure password. If you create a new user your history of Safe Environment Training will not show your history. When you get to your personal page click on Renewal Training (NOT FOUNDATION). Complete all the steps, including the video, through the background check and submit. It will take about 3-7 days for the background check to clear. You will be notified by email when the process is complete. If you are a new volunteer and have never completed any SET training you will need to create an account with CMG. You will be led to the Foundation page and you will follow the steps and register for a live class off the list provided.
I am happy to help anyone who is struggling to create an account with CMG or having trouble completing their renewal or foundation class. Please contact me at the Parish Office 480-661-9843 ex 309 if you have any problems or questions. My contact information is also on the flier. For those who do not have computers I will be happy to help you set up an account through a parish computer. Please have patience with all the changes. Together, over the next few months, we will complete all the necessary steps to help keep St. Bernard’s a safe environment for all!

TEAM JAMAICA MISSION NEWS
The Jamaica Mission Team is beginning to organize for their next journey to Jamaica.
There will be a meeting in September, date to be announced, to begin the process of mission work in Jamaica. We will again be traveling to Kingston, Jamaica to work with the Brothers and Sisters of the Missionaries of the Poor ( MOP ). The dates are Monday, January 27, 2020 – Monday, February 3, 2020. We are reserved and the Brothers and Sisters are expecting us.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul Collection for Toiletries August 31st, September 1st The Vincentians of St. Bernard of Clairvaux would like to appeal for a special collection of toiletries for
the homeless. On the weekend of August 31st/September 1st there will be receptacles in the Church for the collection of personal-sized toiletry items for the homeless. The SVdP facilities in Phoenix, which provide showers and barber services, are in constant shortage of such items. Needed personal or travel-sized items include: soap, shaving cream, disposable razors, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, hand sanitizers, and sunblock. We appreciate all your support for the works of the SVdP Conference here at St. Bernard’s. Your contributions help us help others.
