Prelude Blessed Assurance Knapp/arr. Sanborn Chiming of the Hour Welcome

Introit

O God, our strength and refuge sure, our hope while storms of life endure; Teach us to live in harmony, with earth and river, sky and sea; To nurture waters, air and lands as holy work for human hands.

Call to Worship Who has the wisdom to create the world/ Only God, the Lord of heaven and earth. Who has the power to silence the storm? Only Jesus, the Word of God among us.

*Hymn 386 Come, Worship God

*Invitation to Confession

*Prayer of Confession

(silent confession) Holy, triune God, we confess that we have not lived for your glory. When enemies attack us, we trust in our own defense. When deadly storms surround us, we forget that you are with us. Forgive us, God of grace. In our hardship and affliction teach us to trust that you alone can deliver us from death to life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*Assurance of Forgiveness

*The Peace of Christ

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love. The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.

Time with the Children

Children are invited to remain for the rest of the service or go to First Steps.

Anthem Secure Boersma A storm is raging, Lord. The boat I sail is small and, oh, so frail. The wind is blowing, Lord. I cannot hold the course against the gale. The lightning strikes on every side, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Your hand alone can hold the tide, Lord, rescue me. I am sinking, Lord. The boat is taking water, going down. Part the waters, Lord. I long to plant my feet on solid ground. Oh, Lord of earth and sky and sea, your hand is reaching out to me, I know that you have heard my plea, my hope is sure. I am sinking, Lord. The boat is taking water, going down. Part the waters, Lord. I long to plant my feet on solid ground. Oh, Lord of earth and sky and sea, your hand is reaching out to me, I know that you have heard my plea, my hope is sure. Oh, Lord of earth and sky and sea, your hand is reaching out to me, I know that you have heard my plea, I am secure. I am secure. I am secure.

First Scripture Psalm 133

Second Scripture Mark 4:35-41

Sermon With You Craig Hendrix

*Affirmation of Faith (adapted by members of FPC)

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. We seek to know God's will, to walk in God's ways, and to proclaim the Gospel to all people, by our lives as well as by our words. We work and pray for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human unity in our time. And we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness in our community and in our world. Amen.

Call to Prayer (hymn 288)

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

CULTIVATING MINDFULNESS SKILLS

ADULT STUDY JUNE 10, 17, AND 24

11:15 A.M., FELLOWSHIP HALL

Be still and know that I am God. (Ps. 46:10)

Stillness is a diminishing commodity in our lives; yet, it is through stillness of body, mind, and soul that we strengthen our capacity to listen for God’s voice.

Mindfulness is a practice that has been an integral element of religious and spiritual traditions for millennia.

Today after worship, Steve Herbes will conclude a 3-session study on mindfulness. The first session will be a general overview of what mindfulness is (and isn’t). The next two sessions (June 17 and 24) will focus on specific practices, such as seated and walking meditation.

Steve is a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and a licensed professional counselor. He has over 25 years’ experience in mindful-ness-based meditative practices.
