Some History of St. Bernard Church

PICTURE OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

The frames of both, Our Lady of Guadalupe and St.

Bernard were donated by a generous parishioner (P.M.)

The picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe was brought from

Mexico at the request of Fr. Walter Mallo. It was blessed

on a School Mass on Thursday morning on December 9th

2011 by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Archbishop

Emeritus of Washington DC. The painting was later on

installed by the pastor at that time, Fr. Anibal Karam on

December 12th 2014.

PICTURE OF ST. BERNARD

The painting of Saint Bernard was done by Mr. Daniel

Velasquez at the request of Fr. Gaston. It is a copy of the

one found in the Cistercian Monastery of the Holy Cross

in Austria (2532 Heiligenkreuz im Wienerwald /

Austria).

The painting has an inscription which reads: ‘Vera

effigies Domini Bernardi Abbatis Claraevallensis

secundum staturam corporis ad vivum ex prototypo

sculptili qui est in Claravalle’

“True image of Lord Bernard, Abbot of Clairvaux,

according to the height of his body when alive; taken

from the prototype of a sculpture which is in Clairvaux”

The picture of St. Bernard was blessed and installed on

August 21th 2014 by Fr. Gaston parochial vicar of

St. Bernard at that time.

CRUCIFIX

The Corpus was bought through the

Meyer-Vogelpohl Church Goods Co. in

Cincinnati, OH. But the Corpus itself was

made by Demetz Art Studio which is lo-

cated in Ortisei, a small village nestled in

the Dolomites, a famous mountain range in the Northern

part of Italy, at the heart of the Alps. In this region the

tradition of woodcarving dates back to the 16th century!

The Cross was made and painted by parishioners (A.R.,

P.R., D.R., P.C.).

The Crucifix was installed in the Church by the Dan

Masonry Co. (D.G., M.S., F.R., A.R., P.R.)

The Crucifix was blessed and installed by Fr. Gaston

and Fr. Delfin on the weekend of August 20/21.

It is time for the Cake Booth at the Carnival!!!!

The Women’s Guild needs your cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, or other pastries.

Bring your treats to the school cafeteria on either Friday evening or Saturday morning.

You participation is vital. (Please no desserts that require to be refrigerated )

SILENT AUCTION Parishioners, items are needed for this year's carnival silent auction. Do you know of someone who can donate a little something, maybe a gift certificate to your favorite restaurant?

Un Poco de Historia de la Parroquia de

San Bernardo

LA IMAGEN DE NUESTRA SENORA DE GUADALUPE

Los cuadros de Ntra. Sra. de Guadalupe y de San Bernardo

fueron donados por una generosa parroquiana (P.M.)

La imagen de Ntra. Sra. de Guadalupe fue traída de México por

pedido del P. Walter Mallo. La imagen fue bendecida por el

Cardenal Theodore McCarrick, Arzobispo Emérito de

Washington DC en la Misa de la Escuela del 9 de Diciembre de

2011. La imagen fue luego instalada por el párroco en ese mo-

mento, el P. Aníbal Karam el 12 de Diciembre de 2014.

LA IMAGEN DE SAN BERNARDO

La imagen de San Bernardo fue pintada por Daniel Velásquez

por pedido del P. Gastón. La imagen es una copia de la que se

encuentra en el Monasterio Cisterciense de la Santa Cruz en

Austria (2532 Heiligenkreuz im Wienerwald / Austria).

La imagen tiene una inscripción que dice: ‘Vera effigies

Domini Bernardi Abbatis Claraevallensis secundum staturam

corporis ad vivum ex prototypo sculptili qui est in Claravalle’

“Verdadera imagen del Señor Bernardo, Abad de Claraval, de

acuerdo a la estatura de su cuerpo en vida; tomado del prototipo

La imagen de San Bernardo fue bendecida e instalada el 21 de

Agosto de 2014 por el P. Gaston, vicario parroquial en ese

tiempo.

El Corpus fue comprador a través de la

Compañía Meyer-Vogelpohl en Cincinnati, OH.

El Corpus fue hecho por la Compañía Demetz

Art Studio que se encuentra localizada en Orti-

sei, un pequeño pueblo al norte de Italia, en el

corazón de los Alpes. En esta región, la tradición de tallar la

madera data del siglo 16!

La Cruz fue hecha y pintada por parroquianos (A.R., P.R., D.R.,

P.C.).

El Crucifijo fue installado en la Iglesia por la Compañia Dan

Masonry (D.G., M.S., F.R., A.R., P.R.)

El Crucifijo fue bendecido e instalado por el P. Gastón y el P.

Delfín el fin de semana del 20/21 de Agosto.
