Lenten Observances at St. Bonaventure Parish Fasting is to be observed by all, 18 years of age and older,

who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. Ash Wednesday (Feb. 10) and Good Friday (Mar. 25) are set aside as days of fasting. When fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's need but together they should not equal another full meal. Eat-ing between meals is not permitted but liquids, includ-ing milk and juices, are allowed.

Abstinence is observed by all, 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Abstinence is also observed on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 10) and Good Friday (Mar. 25). Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

Fasting, almsgiving and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Baptism or of renewal of Baptismal vows at Easter.

Confessions Every Saturday .. 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM in the church

Daily Mass Monday through Saturday - 8:00 AM

Weekend Mass Schedule Saturday - 4:00 PM Sunday - 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM

Rosary The Rosary is recited daily, following the 8:00 AM Mass and the Children's Rosary the first Saturday of the month at 3:00 PM

Stations of the Cross Recitation of the Stations of the Cross will take place each Friday during Lent at 5:30 PM.

Divine Mercy Chaplet Recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet will take place each Friday during Lent at 3:00 PM.

Eucharistic Adoration - “Can you spend one hour with Me?” On the first Friday of every month (e.g., Mar. 4 and Apr. 1), the parish will continue its practice of all-day Adoration, be-ginning after the 8:00 AM Mass and continuing until the Stations of the Cross at 5:30 PM. On all other Fridays, Ado-ration will begin at Noon. While the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar, at least two persons should remain in adoration at all times. If you can commit to a specific hour of adoration, please call Nancy McCarthy at 508-224-6212.

Together we form the Body of Christ. Therefore, the good works and penance of each individual brings blessing for the whole Church. Please do not neglect your own practice of

prayer, self-denial and charity during this holy season.

"Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?" - Mt 6:26

Father in heaven, the light of your truth bestows sight to the darkness of sinful eyes. May this season of repentance bring us the blessing of your forgiveness and the gift your light. Amen.

Although Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, it marks the beginning of the season set aside in our Church for personal renewal and growth ~ with fasting, prayers, acts of charity, giving up and giving more.

Ash Wednesday Masses will take place on

Wednesday, February 10th at

8:00 AM … 4:30 PM ...7:00 PM

"Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel."

PRAYER CORNER - Please include the following intention in your personal prayer this week: As we enter the Lenten season, we ask the Lord for the grace that we might live and act in a spirit of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS - will be offered by our parish Health Care Ministry after all the Masses on Sun-day, Feb. 7th. Please come to the new hall and visit with one of our nurses to have your blood pressure checked or to speak with them about your health concerns. Stop by! Stay healthy!

LOW-GLUTEN HOSTS - are available for those afflicted with Celiac Disease. To receive Holy Communion with low-gluten host, please see the priest prior to the Mass. The Bene-dictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri have developed a Communion host that is extremely low in gluten. The host is made from gelatinized wheat starch, and accord-ing to the Sisters, they were tested to a level of 0.01% gluten. At that level, the lowest that could be tested, no gluten was detected. This means that there is less than 0.01% gluten in one of these hosts; however, it is not known how much less. The Secretariat for the Liturgy of the United States Confer-ence of Catholic Bishops has stated that these hosts meet the requirements of the Code of Canon Law and may be validly used at Mass with permission of the person’s pastor. They are manufactured by hand in a separate facility from the ordinary wheat hosts and are shipped separately from the wheat hosts so that there is no danger of cross contamination.
