Stewardship Moment February 23, 2020 – 7th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” MATTHEW 5:44

Love your enemies, easier said than done, no doubt. But, remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close commu-nication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away

from “me” and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”. When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it softens their hearts as well.

It’s not too late to join us! Alpha is beginning Sunday, Feb. 23,

5:30 pm supper St. Cecilia’s Dining Room

Alpha: What to Expect

A typical Alpha—No two Alphas look the same, but they generally have three things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

Food—Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.

Talk– The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Generally thirty minutes long. They explore the big issues around faith, and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?

Discussion- Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simp-ly discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Lent begins February 26th

WHAT SHOULD I GIVE UP FOR LENT?

Lent is the perfect time to form new life-giving habits and abandon old self-destructive habits. But most of us just give up chocolate. Then when Easter arrives, we realize we really haven’t grown spiritually since the beginning of Lent.

Giving things up can help us to have a meaningful Lent, but that’s not what Lent is really all about. Lent is about doing something—something bold to become a better husband or wife, father or mother, son or daughter, friend, neighbor, etc. What if this year you did more than just give up something during Lent? Do something life-changing. Sign up for Dynamic Catholic’s BEST LENT EVER at dynamiccatholic.com

What Is BEST LENT EVER? It's a free email program that will guide you on an incredible journey toward the-best-version-of-yourself. From Ash Wednesday to Easter, you’ll discover ways to transform your life in forty days.

Every life has its dark and cheerful hours.

Happiness comes from choosing which to remember.

Women’s Conference Discount Ends Soon! The early bird reg-istration fee of $50 ends March 1 – after that the conference reg-istration fee will be $75. Additionally, the deadline for the re-duced rate block of rooms at the Country Inn and Suites has been extended to also go until March 1. Be sure to claim your spot now for the REDEEMED Trusted Sisters Women’s Conference.

The conference will be held March 27th (evening) and March 28 at the Far-go Avalon Events Center in Fargo. With the theme Trusted Sisters: Blessed to be a Blessing, this will be an opportunity for women to gain a new perspective on your femininity in relation to God and others through insightful presenta-tions, personal testimonials, liturgical and individual prayer, sacred music, and fellowship. And, plan to stay for the social at the end of the conference. Also, CEUs are available for nurses, counselors, and social workers. Visit www.fargodiocese.org/redeemedwomen to find the list of speakers, the conference schedule, or to get registered.

Safe Haven Sunday— Equipping the Family: Having Critical Conversations

The constant flood of influence that comes through the internet and social media in all of its various forms, along with social pressures from peers make it difficult for children to live virtuous and holy lives. In the digital age, it’s not a matter of if your child will see something inappropriate online. It’s only a matter of when. And regrettably, internet pornography is teaching our children how and what to think about sex and marriage. Next weekend, February 29-March 1st, the Fargo Diocese will be observing our second annual Safe Haven Sunday. This weekend of awareness will provide free resources to you to give you confidence for how to talk to your children about internet dangers, as well as their personal online and offline choices.

Have you struggled with deep hurts from your past? How does one move on in life?

Fr. Neil Pfeifer will present a program: The Core Wound of the Soul

Monday March 9th, 7:00 PM Basilica of St. James, Jamestown All are welcome! St. James Tabernacle Society

We encourage our parishioners to patronize our bulletin sponsors. It is through their generosity that our weekly bulletin comes to you at no publishing cost.

Lent is only a few days away. Doesn't it seem like we just put our Christmas decorations away?

A nominating committee will be chosen at our March meeting. For the June 1st election. The positions to be filled are Regent, Vice Regent, Financial Secretary and Treasurer. If you are approached by the committee to fill one of these positions. Please pray and give it serious thought.

On Wednesday February 12, the CDA with Father Kevin served 35 single seniors. It was a wonderful time for them to visit and enjoy a meal together.

The CDA will be hosting a St. Patrick's day party at the Nursing home on Tuesday March 17th at 1:30 pm. We will meet in the unit A activity room.

Our next meeting will be on Monday March 2nd. Rosary at 7:15 pm in the church . Followed by the meeting in the club room. Our lunch hostess will be Judy Keller and Rosalie Axtman.
