2018
PARISH NEWS:
The Archdiocese of New York has begun a Renew & Rebuild Capital Campaign. The goal is to raise $200 million. Most of what will be raised (74%) will remain in the parishes. Our Parish has begun to roll out this Campaign. Your fellow parishioners are making phone calls and arranging personal visits. Please give them a warm welcome! Among the projects our parish hopes to complete are: IN THE CHURCH: Paint the interior, remove carpeting and replace with new flooring, new kneelers, new light fixtures, renewed bathrooms, redo sanctuary with matching altar, pulpit, altar of repose and baptismal font. IN SCHOOL: Replace all windows with new energy efficient windows and blinds. ROOFING: Ensure all roofs are in good shape. Repair where needed. There will be NO Cardinal’s Appeal in 2018. It will be part of Renew & Rebuild. The Cardinal’s Appeal will resume in 2019. We will be in touch as time goes on with further updates!
POLISH WIGILIA (OPLATEK)
The Christmas Eve Wigilia Supper forms the focal point of the Polish Yuletide customs. Wigilia, which means vigil, commemorates the birth of Jesus. For Polish families, the meal starts when the eastern star appears through the parlor window to serve as a guide to the Birth of Jesus in the same manner as the star of Bethlehem was a guide to the Magi! The meal begins with the ancient tradition of breaking oplatek, a thin wafer, or bread of love. It is passed to the various members of the family who put it to their lips and wish each other Blessings for the upcoming year. These wafers are now available in the Rectory.
Our parish offices will CLOSE on Tuesday, January 2 at 1:00pm for our annual Staff Christmas Luncheon. They will remain closed for the rest of the day!
