Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The RCIA class resumes this Tuesday, January 6th, 7:30—9:00 pm in Seton Hall. The topic will be The Catholic Liturgical Year. All parishioners are welcome to join us and support our Cathechumens and Candidates seeking a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith.
Friendship Club
The Friendship Club at St. Elizabeth Parish was established years ago by an innovative group of adults who wanted to take time each week to be together. Their intent was to get together where they could play, pray and give back to the St. Elizabeth community. We meet every Friday in Seton Hall from 10:00 am until 1:00 or 1:30 pm. Once a month, we take an hour or so for Bible Study under the guidance of Deacon Don Schmit. Periodically, we take time to go to the Dinner Theatre, go see a play or a place of beauty. All activities are designed to provide a fun, affordable experience for any who choose to join us. As we start this new year of 2009, consider joining us on Fridays. Joanie McLaughlin at 816. 361.0913 can answer any questions you may have. Have a great year in 2009!
Marriage Preparation Marriage Preparation at St.
Elizabeth is a 9-12 month process. Your journey towards the Sacrament of Marriage begins at an orientation session. Our next offering will be held Saturday, March 7th from 8:30 to 11:30 am in the school library. Registered parishioners who wish to attend this session or who have questions about marriage preparation should contact Sandi in the parish office at 816.523.2405.
Breaking Open the Word Breaking Open the Word (BOW) will not take place
on December 28th or January 4th due to the Christmas Holiday. We wish all our families a Blessed Christmas and Peace in the New Year. BOW will resume on January 11th during the 10:00 am Mass.
Thank You Thank you to all those who
contributed to our Christmas celebration; those who decorated the Church to make the environment so beautiful; the choirs and musicians who uplifted our spirits with their music; the altar servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, ushers, gift bearers. All who shared their gifts to enhance the experience for all of us. Just as the Magi brought their gifts for the baby Jesus, we all have gifts to share with the parish.

Spotlight On… Ms. Leasa Caron’s 1st grade class has been very busy
this holiday season! They have been learning about Christmas traditions and symbols from around the world, as well as the celebrations of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. They celebrated the holiday season by going to the Kansas City Ballet’s performance of the Nutcracker at the Music Hall. St. Elizabeth student, Emma Swinney (4th Grade), was one of the soldiers! For this field trip they walked to the bus stop and took a city bus downtown. It was quite an adventure!

Our Parish Mission
Though the weather outside was frightful, the feeling inside the Church was delightful Those who attended the Mission were uplifted and encouraged by Fr. Mike Mulhearn’s message of hope and light in our season of Advent.
Many thanks to all who participated in the
liturgies– on Monday night: Our school children as lectors, greeters, and gift bearers, our Children’s Choir, Shamrock Sound, our Adult choir, our cantor, Jenny Weidler, and all who served as Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist. Special thanks to Lisa Caron for coordinating the reception and Carolyn Brewer for the great Jazz Band entertainment during the reception!
On Wednesday night, thanks to all of our
greeters, our lector, Joyce Slater, and all who served as Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist; our special musicians Shannon Bohanan, and Margaret Haik. Special thanks to Joanie McLaughlin and Sandi Lombardino for coordinating the receptions on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
On Thursday night, a special thanks to our
wonderful Knights of Columbus for coordinating the reception following Fr. Mulhearn’s concert. And a very warm thank you to Mr. Mike Vaccaro of Vaccaro Piano and Organ for donating the use of the beautiful Baldwin piano for the week.
Epiphany of the Lord The famous Christmas story of the visit of
the magi to the baby Jesus is foretold in Psalm 72, which reveals how all nations will pay the newborn king homage and pledge to serve him. We too are invited to hear the Good News of our Savior and use the gifts given to us in service to the Lord. At the beginning of this New Year it is appropriate to ask: Will we accept the Lord’s invitation to embrace His Gospel more fervently? What is it that we will do to serve the Lord more faithfully this year? How will we exercise stewardship over our own gifts to proclaim the Good News?
