Weekly Notes
CHRISTIAN UNITYCHRISTIAN UNITYCHRISTIAN UNITY
One of my favorite childhood movies is Transformers: The Movie. It is a cartoon about robots that can chan-ge into cars, planes and other vehicles. At the end of the movie the robots proclaim, “Till all are one!” I think they took that motto from us. Part of our mis-sion as Catholics is to work for Christian Unity. We are given this mission directly from Jesus in his prayer to the Father during the Last Supper (John 17), in the Second Vatican Council Decree on ecumenism Unita-tis Redintegratio (November 21, 1964) and the Papal Encyclical Ut Unum Sint (May 25, 1995) . This week is designated as the week of prayer for Christian Unity. It is a sad truth that Christians are not united in our beliefs and practices of the faith. We have always struggled with one another, but we’ve been formally separated from our orthodox brothers and sisters for almost a thousand years and we’ve been separated from our protestant brothers and sisters for about five hundred years. The night before Jesus died he prayed a prayer for us his disciples, “That they might be one” (John 17:21). This week we will cele-brate the Mass for the Unity of Christians, the Mass for Promoting Harmony, and the Mass for Persecuted Christians that we might all be one people of faith again as Jesus intended from the beginning. If you cannot attend a mass, please join us in your personal prayer for Christian unity, “Till all are one.”

UNIDAD CRISTIANAUNIDAD CRISTIANAUNIDAD CRISTIANA

SAN ISIDRO’S GARDEN CORNER SAN ISIDRO’S GARDEN CORNER SAN ISIDRO’S GARDEN CORNER
Do you like to make things grow? Can you use fresh vegetables for your family at little or no cost? Would you like a place where you can spend time with your kids to produce good results? San Isidro’s Garden might be just the place for you to get involved in this parish. The garden has been a part of the parish since 2011, but there have not been many workers in the garden. Even so, we have produced food for families of the gardeners and food for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. But the workers are getting older and unable to work the way they did in the past. We need your help. As the new garden season approaches, the Garden Ministry will use this space to keep you up to date on what is happening now in the garden. We invite you to join us in planning and planting. Later on, we will let you know as things need to be pruned and picked and weeded. Did you know that we have grapes and blueberries and figs growing in the garden? Watch this space.
