Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives

through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God’s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations

and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable.

In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the “good news” of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action.

This weekend we formally present our “Capital Campaign” - it’s “history”, scope, goals and method - to the parish at all weekend

Masses. So, it turns out to be a “big Day” in the life of our parish, one whose impact will be felt for years! Much thought, prayer and inquiry has already gone into the campaign. We have gotten local and diocesan approval and have already conducted many one-on-one visits, small group meetings and receptions. The results have been very positive. Now it is time finally and very publicly to launch the main campaign. Please listen attentively and be careful to note how the Campaign has evolved and taken account of all the thoughts and priorities lots of parishioners have indicated. We have responded sincerely to the expressed needs. We need everybody - whether you can give an amount large or small - what matters is that everyone does the best they can. It’s not equal giving that counts, it is equal sacrifice. Everyone’s circumstances are different, so pray, discuss, discern and decide. The campaign continues now for three months. Ashley Erlitz from Lynch Development is here with us today after all the Masses to answer further questions and clarify whatever matters need to be addressed.

Thank you so much for your involvement and cooperation!

Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!!

Bulletin Reflection The Gospel reminds us that our lives and our deeds must serve as examples to others, pointing the way to the Father. Not for our own benefit do we labor, but so that others may see our

good works and give glory to our Father in heaven.

Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who choose to use their resources to reach out to others and build

God’s kingdom of love, justice and peace.

Time, Talent & Treasure

Fostering Stewardship as a way of life

February 9: Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In the Gospel today, Jesus says, “You are the light of the world,” he is calling us to live our Christian vocation in words and deeds. Be a “light” to those living in poverty and in a world of darkness by giving a donation to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Send us your email if you would like to start

receiving “Bringing Home the Word”, a weekly message based on the Sunday Scripture readings.

SUNDAY READINGS for next week, Feb.16th

Sirach 15:15-20 A wise teacher describes two very different paths. One leads to life, the other to death. The choice is ours to make.

1 Corinthians 2:6-10 Paul speaks of God’s wisdom revealed by the Spirit to those who love God. It is the truth that God saves them through Christ crucified.

Ma hew 5:17-37 Jesus offers concrete examples of how he has come to fulfill

Glimpses Along The Way of the Cross

In these three beautiful talks, Fr. James Shea guides us along the Stations of the

Cross, teaching us how to better open our hearts to the suffering and loneliness of

Jesus on His way to Calvary. Weaving together the insights of keen believers like

Fr. Richard Neuhaus, Caryll Houselander, Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and Dr. James Edwards, these powerful meditations take us into the depths of Christ's agony, and back out again into the relief

and joy of what His sacrifice means for us.

CD’s are available for purchase in the vestibule.

Many titles to choose from at $3 each.

Tuition Assistance Available at Trinity Regional School

Families who are part of the Trinity Regional School community are eligible for tuition assistance. This comes at a variety of levels. The school principal, Ms. Jeanne Morcone, is happy to discuss immediate assistance whenever a problem may arise. Families can apply to the diocesan “Tomorrow’s Hope” for a tuition grant. When more extended assistance is needed, the family works confidentially with the parish pastor and principal. At this time the six pastors are working on a Full Scholarship Program as well. Any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Morcone or Fr. Peter

“Children too are a gift from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward.” Psalm 127: 3

RESPECT LIFE NEWS Again, Our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner is so grateful to Dr. Kelly Buckley of the Buckley Family Chiropractic Center, 755 Pulaski Road, Greenlawn as she continues to support our precious babies. This past December, Dr. Kelly sponsored yet another Annual BFCC Baby Corner Diaper Drive to help our Baby Corner as she and her patients

gathered much needed new items for our struggling families. As last year, an anonymous donor offered to double all contributions up to $1,000. We praise God as we warmly thank Dr. Kelly and her most wonderful patients for their tremendous kindness and generosity in helping and loving our babies. The piles of baby items overflowed and surrounded the bassinet in her waiting room. Thank you!!! Our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner is awaiting the birth of two precious babies due to born in April. You can be sure their mommies and dads shall be so very appreciative of their beautiful baby layettes complete with hand-knitted blankets provided through all your awesome donations given with such care and love. We thank Our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe for all your help for our needy moms and precious babies. We greatly appreciate contributions of Huggies, Pampers, and Luv’s diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6, unscented baby wash, unscented shampoo, baby clothes in Toddler sizes, and money. We are able to stretch our budget with the baby coupons you place in our white crib in our Baby Corner so please keep them coming. Need assistance? Wish to join our St. Francis of Assisi Respect Life Committee? Please call our rectory at 631-757-7435. Call for the Life Center of Long Island at 631-243-2373 for help with a crisis pregnancy, healing after an abortion, or to donate baby equipment. Lots of cribs are needed at this Life Center in Deer Park. (Please do not bring cribs to our Church; rather, call the Life Center to make arrangements. Thank you!) The Life Center’s Life Line is open 24 hours, 7 days a week at 631-243-0066. Intercessions for Life: February 9th Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time For those afraid to love: May the Lord take away their fear and give them the courage to give of themselves generously to the most vulnerable and needy. We pray to the Lord. Word of Life: “Likewise, if we really believe that abortion is an intimate act of violence—and of course, it—then we can’t aim at anything less than ending abortion. It doesn’t matter that some abortions have always occurred, or that some will always occur. If we really believe that abortion kills a developing, unborn human life, then we can never be satisfied with mere reductions in the body count.”~Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, “Why This Work Matters: Human Dignity and the Road Ahead,” March 9, 2010

Please continue to pray each day for all our precious babies—born and unborn—and their parents!!!

Pray the rosary each day for the conversion of America’s heart to end abortion.
