Next weekend we welcome Deacon Nick Johnson, who will be our guest preacher at all masses. He’ll break open the Gospel, tell us about the work of Amigos for Christ, and invite us to join this mission to the poor in Nicaragua. Deacon Nick Johnson was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Atlanta in 2004. He is husband to Robin and father of 3. After a career as a sales executive in the Design & Construction industry, he joined Amigos for Christ full-time late in 2013 as Director of Collaboration, responsible for raising awareness here in the US for the work Amigos does in Nicaragua. NOTICE FROM OUTREACH MINISTRY

We will no longer be able to accept clothing at the Church container in La Salette Hall. The non-profits, who we support, simply do not have the room to store huge amounts of clothing. Their closets, like yours and mine, have limited space. There are several places where you can take your clothing, for adults and for children. Our favorite is the Church Shop which is located on Main Street across from Jordan Scott Hair Salon. The money that is collected, from sales at the Church Shop, stays in the community and is donated to many non- profit organizations. My personal favorite is the Infant Ward at the hospital. Any Mom, who may be short on funds, having a baby at the local hospital, will receive whatever she needs to get started. Many years ago, the Presbyterian Church started a Church

Shop at their church location. They asked all churches to participate if they wished. The La Salettes asked Rita Belisle if she would take part in that endeavor. Rita began there around 1978 or so. She was a driving force in making it a huge success. Most churches and most non-profits will give vouchers to individuals in need of clothing and sometimes even household goods. There is no parking on that side of the street. However, if you pull up in front, you can get orange cones inside the door to put in front and in back of your car until you can unload it. Thank you for all you do for the least of our brothers and sisters. You are surely the most generous parish ever. God bless you.

OUTREACH MINISTRY In Chapter Nine in the book of Luke, when the crowds following Jesus grew to an unbelievable number, Jesus told the apostles to feed the crowd. The apostles answered that they could not do so because they did not have enough food for the crowd and there was no food in the vicinity to harvest. Jesus said, "Feed Them." The apostles protested and told Jesus it simply could not be done. Jesus told them to sit down on the ground and wait. And the food multiplied and all were fed with plenty left over. You are remarkable apostles. You have done as Jesus has asked. Many people now know the name of St. Francis, the Catholic Church out on Douthit Ferry road. And wait until you meet some more apostles who are your friends and neighbors. Kristie Mitchell, St. Francis parishioner and teacher of some very special kids is on the left in the first row. She is assisted by Amber McCurley who is the Job Coach. She is pictured on the far right in the first row. The four young people are students in a program called Project Search which is an internship at Cartersville Medical Center. These students are immersed in a internship which concentrates on job training which includes computer skills and job skills. They must participate in three internships within the Cartersville Medical Center. Kristie called when she heard about the Care Packages for the homeless. Through your generous donations. we have been able to furnish this program with the items listed in the bulletin. We have delivered eight large plastic bins (shown in the picture) with those items to Kristie and her students. They have now delivered back to us a little over 100 Care Packages for the Homeless. They will be able to count this as job training in this internship (sorting, counting, packaging, etc.). They continue to ask for more work. They are fully aware that, as they learn, they are helping those in need. The poor and the homeless are with us always. If you can continue to donate your little Care Package items, we will continue to deliver them to these great kids. The hungry and the homeless will benefit from your generosity and these great young people will grow immensely in their ability to sort, count and package. And wait until you see the fruits of the labors from a similar class taught by Dian Hall. Dian is also a parishioner and choir leader and musical genius . Her class is working just as hard. God bless all the participants in this ministry and God bless you for furnishing the necessities for this huge and ongoing program.

!! Big Announcement !! It is our custom at St. Francis, as it is in so many other Catholic Churches around the world, to take a breather from our Lenten sacrifices and our meatless meals to gather on Friday nights for the famous Fish Fry. It is a universal truth that every Knights of Columbus Council in the civilized world is preparing for this annual tradition. Our Council is known for it's secret recipes and its famous "fish presentations." In fact, we have received notice that councils of Knights from many areas are trying desperately to get our recipes. They have bribed, sent menacing letters and sent

spies to our kitchen. Thankfully, our Council at St. Francis is dedicated to it's secret recipes and it's pleasant atmosphere and no one has revealed our special dishes. Our council offers fresh fish prepared with loving hands, French fries, cole slaw and Agan's cake for dessert. The price is reasonable and the kids are welcome. Come on Friday, February 20th and meet your fellow parishioners. Bring the kids or, if the need arises, come and get "take home" dinners. After you eat, buy a Bingo Card or 2 (or 3, 4, 5 or 6). Bingo is another Catholic tradition which involves the family and all your friends and neighbors. We do need your help with prizes for Bingo. We need prizes for Moms, Dads, and little folks. Household articles, homemade items, toys, crayons, books for all ages and gift cards are all welcome. If you own a business and want to donate services, that would be great. If you want to make it easy on your self, donate a gift card to a local store or a gasoline card. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be an award for finding five numbers in a row. You can leave your donated prizes in

La Salette Hall in our wooden bin that sits in the corner. They will be picked up daily. If you wish to donate a gift card or a business card, you can put it in the collection basket when you come to Mass. We really need your help with this. If all else fails, see Laura. She will take care of guiding you in the right direction. Hopefully, you will stay for Stations of the Cross after dinner. Stations are a sacred ritual depicting the Way of the Cross. We want you to come and share a meal with us and play some Bingo with us and then we can pray as a community. There simply cannot be a better way to spend one evening of the week in the company of fellow parishioners. We eat together, play together and pray together.

Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
