  • First Friday Devotions

Last week we heard the Gospel of Martha and Mary (“Martha, Martha you are anx-

ious and upset about many things. Mary has chosen the one thing necessary and it

shall not be taken from her.”) I preached about the importance of listening to God

before acting. We are a society of action but if we don’t first listen to God our ac-

tions will not bear the full fruit they could.

A very practical way we have to listen at St. Francis Xavier is through our First Fri-

day devotions. Each First Friday we offer Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in

the Church. This is where the Body of Christ, the Bread of Life, is place in a Mon-

strance and placed upon the altar for us to adore. The church is open from 2:00 pm

until 7:00 pm to come to talk and listen to Our Lord. You don’t have to sign up to

come – but it does help us make sure that each hour is covered because we do not

want to leave Our Lord alone.

What can you do during this time? You could pray a Rosary, read Scripture, or pre-

view the coming Sunday readings. You could spend time in silent praise, spiritual

warfare, repentance, forgiveness, intercessions, petitions or thanksgiving. You could

also spend some silent time listening to the Lord. Here are some questions that

might assist your conversation with the Lord:

What are the biggest changes you would like to make to your life in the next 12

    months?

What are the biggest changes you would like to make to your life in the next 1–3

    years?

What do you want to achieve most in your life?

What is your greatest obstacle to this achievement?

What are 3 of your biggest achievements to date?

What dream have you given up on?

What major transitions have you had in the past 2 years?

What is the hardest thing in your life you’ve ever had to overcome?

Looking at the past 6 months of your life, do you like the direction your life is

    moving?

What part of yourself have you given up on?

    What are your primary stressors?

What is your definition of success?

What would you like your personal legacy to be?

    Summer Needs

    We are serving a large

    number of homeless peo-

    ple who have needs that

    are much different from

those in a more stable liv-

    ing arrangement. These

    include bottled water, toi-

    let paper, soap, shampoo,

    deodorant, toothpaste,

    wash cloths, as well as

    pop-top canned meats

    and fruit. We can’t pur-

    chase these items from

    Second Harvest, so any do-

    nations of this type would

    be much appreciated as

    would any other food do-

    nations that supplement

    one’s nutritional

    needs. Thanks for your

    support.

    The Council of Catholic

    Women will be meeting on

Monday, August 5 at 6 pm in

Xavier Hall. We would like to

invite the ladies of the parish 18 years

and up to come and join us. Bring a

    friend.

  • Msgr. John A. Kenneally Scholarship

In honor of Msgr. John Kenneally’s 50th anniversary of his ordination, St. William Parish Council has es-

tablished the Msgr. John Kenneally Scholarship for any St. Francis Xavier student entering grades 6-8 in

the 2019-20 school year who show a financial need through FACTS and have excelled in community

service or extra-curricular activities. Application is available at sfxcs.org or email [email protected] for

more information. Deadline to apply is August 1, 2019.

    It is that time again.

    We are asking for do-

    nations of supplies for

    the school. If you

    would like to help, get

    an apple off the bulle-

    tin boards and return

it with your donation to the boxes at

the exits. If you would prefer not to get

an apple but still want to help, they can

always use copy paper, pencils, pens,

    crayons, markers, paper towels and

Clorox wipes. Please put these in the

boxes at the exits of the Church.

We have received a challenge grant from St. Francis Xa-vier friend and alumna Jeanne Kaufmann for LabLearner, a 100% research-based, hands-on science system used as a platform for STEM learning worldwide. The LabLearner suite is comprehensive: laboratory set-up, curriculum integration and teacher training are all steps in the process of making science meaningful and enjoyable for our Preschool to 8th grade students. For every dollar raised, we will receive matching funds up to $10,000.
