Reverse Osmosis for St. Gabriel Kitchen

A reverse osmosis and water softener have been looked into to be installed in St. Gabriel Church kitchen. The reverse osmosis and water softener would be for the coffee maker and give us drinking water. Currently, we get drinking water from the grocery store and the coffee maker has a filter. We have had some issues with the coffee maker and the reverse osmosis would give us better coffee and probably less problems with the coffee maker. The size of the reverse osmosis would be 20 gallons, enough for the Harvest Festival coffee. The cost to rent is $70 per month. That includes renting the reverse osmosis and water softener and the maintenance of them from Culligan in Slayton. So far the feedback has been positive and we would like to go ahead and have them installed sometime in February 2017. We do have the funds from the FCCW to do this project.

A New Year’s Resolution you can keep~ Join us on Feb 19th as we begin a 33-day preparation for Marian

Consecration. Each day we’ll individually follow 4 great Marian giants. Weekly meetings, are held every Sunday evening, Feb 19 - March 25, at 6:30pm, in the St. Ann, Slayton, social room. St. Gabriel Quilting~ We will begin to tie quilts this Monday, February 6, 2017 at 9:00 AM in St. Gabriel School. Anyone is

welcome to come and help and no sewing experience is needed. Just come and we will teach you how to tie quilts. I have lots of notes of thank you to share with you. Those who receive our quilts are quite appreciative! Many thanks to those who have sewn a quilt top and for the donations of materials we have received.

Prayer Shawl Ministry~ In the past several years, St. Gabriel has had a prayer shawl ministry that makes and gives prayer shawls to

people who are sick and/or have a need for a prayer shawl. In the past, people have knitted or crocheted a shawl and have said prayers as they knit or crochet. The shawl is then donated to the church and JoAnne McCormick gave the shawls away. JoAnne is no longer doing this ministry and we are looking for someone who would like to do it. Part of the ministry is getting the yarn and patterns and getting the word out about them and the other piece is getting the shawls to those in need. If you would like to volunteer to do this most important ministry, please call the office or Renee Dorpinghaus at 605 695 7817. Thanks!

Coffee and Rolls~ Coffee and rolls or other treats are served almost every Sunday after mass. Needed are people to supply the treats

and to serve coffee and rolls. It seems that mostly the same people do it every Sunday and they sure could use some help. This is a time for St. Gabriel parishoners to gather and share some time together and all are invited to come. If you could take a Sunday and serve coffee and rolls, there is a calendar on the bulletin board in the kitchen. Just sign on the Sunday you can serve coffee and rolls. If you would just like to donate a coffee cake or some other treat, please let Edie Troje or Sue Zins know and someone will serve the coffee and rolls.

Thank You! Thank You!~ Thank you to Jim and Edie Troje for donating a grill to the St. Gabriel kitchen. And, thank

you to Roxanne Kenney and Trudy Holinka for donating 4-slice toasters to the kitchen. Thank You!!!

Respect Life~The March for Life at our nation’s capital (January 27) is still fresh in our minds. People from all over the

country came to show their support for the over 60 million babies lost to abortion and to pray for the preborn children that are

not safe in their mother’s womb. But there is Good News for those hurting from abortion. The Silent No More organization released a project called “Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion.” The aim of Shockwaves is to reach out to those impacted by the loss of a child through abortion: parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, abortion workers, and even the abortionists themselves. Do you need resources for healing and help? Do you know of others who may need help? See http://www.silentnomoreawareness.org/shockwaves/ for more information.
