COUNCIL/COMMUNITY/CHURCH – Annual Mega Bingo Fundraiser for Charity: On Sat Oct 1st, we held our annual Mega Bingo fundraiser for local charities. Our list of charities includes St.

Genevieve Church, El Caldito Soup Kitchen, Las Cruces Catholic School, LC Special Olympics, Boys & Girls Club of LC, Casa de Peregrinos Food Bank, Scholarships for Students Entering College, Aid to Seminarians, United in Ministry, St. Genevieve Youth Group, and St. Vincent de Paul. This fundraiser requires a lot of work, from a lot of Knights and Ladies. But through these profits, our little council reaches deep into the community with critical financial support. Our hard-earned funds help a lot of people! We took a lot of pictures…if you volunteered to help at the Mega Bingo, you probably will find your photo.

The Crew on the Floor: It takes a lot of hard-working people on the floor to serve our 350 customers. This year we got a lot of help from newcomers… Adam Vasquez and his family and the “dynamic duo” of Latson Munn and Dennis Cordova, who were everywhere. Latson and Dennis even stayed late to mop the floors after the event. This important job often gets overlooked! Photos are below.

More Workers on the Floor: The St. Genevieve Bingo workers sold the money trees and the extra packets on the floor. Our council and ladies auxiliary members provided the rest of the labor. There was lots of activity: greeting and seating the 350 guest players, providing a full menu of food, raffling off and handing out numerous door prizes, and just providing an environment of fun for ourselves and our customers. We had door prizes that included two television sets, two bicycles, a portable oven and numerous bingo bags. Our food menu included enchiladas, burritos, and Brother Rudy’s hamburgers. More photos of our Brothers at work appear below.

Bishop Oscar Cantu was the celebrant at a Mass honoring our police, firefighters and law enforcement personnel and their families. This year, our council was the co-host with Basilica de San Albino Council 15578. District Deputy Richard Archuleta planned and directed the effort. Our Brothers assisted, and members of the Catholic Daughters helped to prepare and serve the refreshments. The family of Bros Matt and Dan Seltzer provided music. The activity was covered by the local press, and many of our members attended. Pictures follow.

COUNCIL/COMMUNITY/FAMILY/CHURCH – Council Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser: As reported by GK Jaime Flores this fall, there is a need for some additional fundraising in order to meet our council expenditures. All of the net profit from our Mega Bingo (typically about $11,000 yearly) goes directly to local charities. A report by the Grand Knight and the Trustees indicated that the projected shortfall for the coming year is approximately $1500. This amount is needed to balance the 2016-17 budget and to purchase some badly-needed kitchen equipment. New equipment is needed so that our excellent kitchen crew can do their job properly for the parish, community and council when we support many events at the Parish Hall. GK Jaime Flores suggested that we sponsor a pancake breakfast. Our first breakfast was held on Sunday, Oct 23 from 8AM to 12N. Approximately 20 Knights and 10 Ladies volunteered to help. Bros Raymond Narvaez and Stephen Elchlepp proposed that we take donations to deliver plates to the homeless at the Community of Hope..50 donated plates from the pancake breakfast were delivered to the Gospel Rescue Mission! On Sunday, many parishioners, knights and their families came to support us and to enjoy a morning of good food and good company.

INSURANCE AGENT’S MESSAGE

LTC Is an Important Piece of the Puzzle

There are many financial consultants and retirement authorities who emphasize the need for a long-term care (LTC) product for estate preservation and family protection. While many commercial life insurance companies have gotten out of the long-term care business, the Knights of Columbus considers LTC a very important piece of the family protection puzzle. The Order has been actively offering our members this product for nearly 15 years without a premium increase on current policyholders. Members who wisely purchased an LTC plan from the Knights in 2000 are still paying the same premiums today. Even better, our LTC coverage is backed by the full strength of the Order, which remains rooted in our strong Catholic values. Talk about stability when it counts.

If we have not spoken about your need for LTC coverage in your family portfolio, please take some time out of your schedule to meet with me.

Remember, long-term care policies are underwritten based on your health, and you most likely will never be any healthier than you are today.

Matthew Seltzer (575) 936-7181

NEWS ABOUT TONI FRIETZE: We have all been praying for Lady Toni Frietze, the wife of Past Grand Knight Jesus Frietze, during her wait for a kidney transplant. In early October, she had a successful kidney transplant operation at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. She is presently doing well, and is recovering from the surgery. We all have heard of the outstanding work that is done at the Mayo Clinic, and the doctors there will be working with her for about one more month. She is scheduled to return home to Las Cruces, and we are all anxious for our friend to be back with us! Please continue praying for Toni and Jesus as they proceed through Toni’s recovery.

Toni and Jesus Frietze ___________________________________ 4th Degree News: Are you a 3rd Degree Knight in good standing? If so, consider joining the St. Michael the Archangel Assembly 3330. The 4th degree is the final degree in the Knights of Columbus and is the “Patriotic Degree”. Just fill out a 4th degree membership form so it can be taken to the Assembly meeting for approval. Blessed are you, Lord, God of mercy, who through your Son

gave us a marvelous example of charity and the great commandment of love for one another.

Send down your blessings on these your servants, who so generously devote themselves to helping others.

Grant them courage when they are afraid, wisdom when they must make quick decisions,

strength when they are weary, and compassion in all their work.

When the alarm sounds and they are called to aid both friend and stranger,

let them faithfully serve you in their neighbor. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
