ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH October 24, 2021 EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA

My Dear Parishioners, This weekend at Saint Jane’s is a special me. We have been focusing upon the presence of our Lord in the Eucharist. On Friday we began a special me of Eucharis c Adora on modeled upon the tradi onal Forty Hours Devo ons. During this me, except for mes when Mass was being celebrated, the Eucharist was exposed upon the altar during the day, and we were all encouraged to take some me to “visit” the church to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. Here in the Diocese of Allentown, we have been celebra ng the “Year of the Real Presence.” Bishop Schlert proclaimed this observance this past June, on the feast of Corpus Chris , the solemnity of the Body and Blood of our Lord. It was at that me that we began to come to some normalcy during this COVID-19 pandemic when so many were prevented from coming to the Eucharist. Our Bishop observed “the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist is the center of our Diocesan life. I look forward to the me when all of us can be ‘really present’ at the Mass.” It is against this background that we focus this year upon the real presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist. Our Forty Hours observance will conclude with a solemn celebra on of the presence of our Lord Jesus in prayer, acclama on and song. It will be held at 4 PM on Sunday. This will include Benedic on of the Blessed Sacrament and a Eucharis c procession. Our guest preacher for the closing ceremonies will be Father Bernard Ezaki, who was formerly a parochial vicar here at our parish. We will also be joined by other priests of the Diocese, many of whom have a special connec on to our parish. The Holy Eucharist is at the heart of the mystery of our faith. In this Sacrament, our Lord Jesus o ers Himself to us as spiritual food, and presents Himself to us as the Bread of Everlas ng Life. Our Catholic faith teaches that the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity of our Lord, and therefore, the whole Christ, is contained in this wonderful Sacrament. The doctrine of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist is central to our faith. One of the ways that we express this faith is through the prac ce of Eucharis c Adora on: we o er our prayers and worship to the Jesus who is contained in the Sacrament of His body and blood. Please plan on being a part of the closing celebra on this Sunday a ernoon, October 24th. As a parish, it will be a wonderful opportunity for us to express Eucharis c faith and devo on. As individuals, it will be a chance for us to grow closer to our Lord through our devo on to Him in this wonderful Sacrament. Sincerely yours, Monsignor Radocha

THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

ENTRANCE HYMN Amazing Grace Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved *a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind but now I see. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: The Lord has done great things for us: We are filled with joy. PREP OF GIFTS Humbly Lord We Worship You Humbly Lord, we worship you, our Eternal King. You who died to give us life, hear us as we sing. Refrain: Jesus, God and Lord of all, come to us, we pray. Thus united in your love, may we live this day. Jesus Lord, we offer you ev’ry act this day. May we live our love for you and your will obey. Lord, forgive us all our faults, others we forgive. May we strive with all our souls, Christian lives to live. May we love you in each soul, and each soul in you; One in our eternal goal, one in all we do. Jeanne Frolick, SFCC, © 1973, OCP. COMMUNION: Take and Eat

Refrain: Take and eat, take and eat This is my body given up for you Take and drink, take and drink This is my blood given up for you. I am the Word that spoke and light was made I am the seed that died to be re-born I am the bread that comes from heaven above I am the vine that fills your cup with joy. I am the way that leads the exile home I am the truth that sets the captive free I am the life that raises up the dead I am your peace, true peace my gift to you. I am the Lamb that takes away your sin I am the gate that guards you night and day You are my flock you know the shepherd's voice You are my own, your ransom is my blood.

Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field, And sing, sing to the glory of the Lord! Praise for the sun, the bringer of day, he carries the light of the Lord in his rays; the moon and the stars who light up the way unto your throne! TOGETHER IN FAITH—BUILDING OUR FUTURE

Just a week ago, some exciting news was shared at Mass. A long-dreamed about project has finally begun. With the help of our dedicated parishioners, we have undertaken the beginnings of the building of a new parish center and gymnasium here on the property of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church! This venture will include a full court basketball court, along with meeting pods to accommodate our many parish groups and ministries. There will be a full kitchen, and when completely open, a social hall to seat 200 people. Our goal is to break ground some time in 2022. To accomplish this task, we have begun a capital campaign to get together the necessary funding. Our campaign is being titled “Together in Faith – Building Our Future”. Before each Mass, during the campaign, we will be praying for its success. Already, so many parishioners have demonstrated a wonderful spirit of sacrifice in pledging over $1.8 million for this work. We hope to raise $5 million through this campaign for a project which is estimated to cost $6 million. Please be open to the information which will be shared with you over the next few weeks. There will be presentations here in church. You will also be receiving a mailing detailing some of the work to be done, and the ways that you can participate in this exciting project. If each of our parishioners would prayerfully consider his or her level of support – each according to ability – we will certainly be suc-cessful in making this dream come true!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR

SUPPORT Thank you for your continued support of the Easton Area Society of St.

Vincent de Paul Food Pantry during these trying times. Because of COVID-19, we continue to use the precautionary measures of not allowing our clients access to the building and handing out pre-packed bags of food outdoors. We are always grateful to receive any variety of non-perishable food, but our greatest need is for hearty canned soups, pasta and Hamburger Helper. Please do not donate any large family or commercial sized packages of food because they are hard to handle under these circumstances. We are not distributing clothing, therefore, at this time, we cannot accept donations of clothing. Please bring your donations to the Msgr. CATECHESIS CORNER

Who can educate us in prayer?

The Christian family is the first place of educa-tion in prayer. Daily family prayer is particularly recommended because it is the first witness to

the life of prayer in the Church. Catechesis, pray-er groups, and "spiritual direction" constitute a

school of and a help to prayer.
