ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH JUNE 28, 2020 EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA

My Dear Parishioners, So often we hear Jesus fo-cusing upon the simple things. We have an example today on our liturgy. In

Matthew’s Gospel (10, 42) we hear him say, “And I promise you that whoever gives a cup of cold water to one of these lowly ones because he is a disciple will not want for his reward.” A cup of water doesn’t seem like very much. But to the thirsty person on a hot summer’s day, a nice cool drink of water can make all the differ-ence in the world. Our Lord frequently reminds his disciples that the little things count for a lot, especially when they are given in a spirit of generosity and love. In fact, it is often the small things that are critical – those acts of charity that when added together form a steady stream of thoughtfulness and concern. These acts are the mark of a true disciple. In Saint Paul’s letter to the Romans we are reminded today that all of us have been baptized into Jesus. In our baptism we enter into his death and resurrection. We are configured to Christ so that we might live with Jesus at the very center of our lives. We are all called to this life. But living the life of a Christian does not mean that we need to accomplish great things. It means living our calling humbly and faithfully. Those little seemingly insignificant acts of kindness are what the Christian call-ing is all about. In the parable of the Last Judgment (also in St. Mat-thew’s Gospel) Jesus speaks about giving the hungry to eat and the thirsty to drink. Then he adds, “whatever you do to the least of my brothers (and sisters), you to do me.” He makes it clear in this parable that, in the end, none of us will be judged on the place of power or prominence that we attain in this world. Rather, we will be judged on the consistency of our acting with charity toward others. We will be judged on those small acts of kindness. So today, Our Lord Jesus focuses our attention upon a little cup of water. He reminds us that we need to focus upon those everyday acts of kindness as we strive to live the life of a Christian. We know that the best way to do this is to turn to him every day of our lives, offering our every action to him. Sincerely yours, Monsignor Radocha

Procedure for Saturday evening and Sun-day Morning “Parking Lot” Masses (Masses: Saturday 5 PM. Sunday 9 AM and 11 AM.) · Please come early – it will take a few moments to get parked and oriented. · You will be greeted by an usher / attendant in a yellow vest who will give you a parish bulletin and direct you to the north end of the parking lot (between the church and Rt. 22.) · When you park your vehicle, please try to leave an empty space between you and the next car. · There are two ways you can participate in the Mass: tune your car radio to FM 97.3 or bring your personal device and hear and watch the Mass live-streamed on our parish website. FM will reach only the north side or the parking lot ,or the area of the parking lot between the church and rectory. · Please do not leave your car until Communion for any reason other than an urgent situation. The bathrooms off the Msgr. Gobitas room will be open for those who need them. · Be conscious that while you are in a parking lot, you are nonetheless at church. Please be rever-ent and respectful of those who are worshipping around you. · Only those directly participating in the liturgy will be in the church. · Holy Communion will be distributed by the priests and a deacon following the Mass. Please wait until you are called by an usher / attendant and follow the markings on the pavement for 6 ft. social distancing. · The priest or deacon may take a moment be-tween communicants to sanitize his hands if he feels that there has been any physical contact. Please be patient. · There will be receptacles for your weekly offer-ing located close to the communion stations. You may make your contribution after receiving commun-ion. · It is highly recommended that you receive Communion in the hand with hands outstretched, one hand over the other. While Communion on the tongue is permitted, it is deemed to be less hygienic. · You may make your thanksgiving after Com-munion in your car. Please exit the parking lot care-fully, realizing that some people may still be moving toward the Communion stations. · It is imperative that there must be no gathering before or after the Mass.

AN ACT OF CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL: O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immacu-late, we dedicate

and consecrate ourselves to you under the title of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. May this medal be for each one of us a sure sign of your affection for us and a constant reminder of our duties toward you. Ever while wearing it, may we be blessed by your loving protection and preserved in the grace of your Son. O most powerful Virgin, Mother of our Savior keep us close to you every mo-ment of our lives. Obtain for us, your children, the grace of a happy death; so that, in union with you, we may enjoy the bless of heaven forever. Amen. O Mary, conceived without sin...pray for us who have recourse to you (3 times.)

MEMORARE

Remember, O most compassionate Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your assistance, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother; to you we come, before you we kneel sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incar-nate, despise not our petitions, but in your clemency hear and answer them. Amen.

If you would like to contribute electronically, simply go to our website, scroll down to “donate,” and follow the simple direc ons. Again, thanks to all for your help as we con nue to live through this difficult period! Because of our ongoing deficit, we have also begun a special “COVID-19 Relief Fund." I want to thank all of you who have so generously contributed toward it! As it stands presently, $129,623 has been contributed toward this fund, reducing the deficit in giving to just over $53,000. If you have not yet made your contribu. on, please consider helping your parish in this par cular me of need! Again, I want thank all of you who have so generously respond-ed to this appeal, and to the many parishioners who con nue to support our parish on a regular basis by means of weekly envelopes or online giving!
