2nd SUNDAY OF LENT

"When the disciples heard this, they fellprostrate and were very much afraid." Peter,James, and John already knew Jesus. They hadbeen following him, learning from him, watchinghim for quite some time. But what took placebefore their eyes at the Transfiguration wasunlike anything they had yet witnessed. This wasnot just a miracle or a message: this was asupernatural vision. When Jesus' face suddenly"shone like the sun" and two ancient prophetsappeared and spoke, and a heavenly voiceannounced the true identity of their friend andteacher, these three disciples nearly fainted infear. It must have been too glorious, toostrange, too astonishing to handle.

But Jesus "came and touched them" torouse them from their prostration. He toldthem, "Rise, and do not be afraid." What abeautiful moment. The Lord realized that hisfriends were overwhelmed. He had compassionon their meager ability to comprehend what wasreally going on. He allowed them to participatein this moment of revelation to help themunderstand who he was, but he still understoodwho THEY were--imperfect human beings whocould not be expected to completely understandthe ways of God. Sometimes we might long towitness a kind of Transfiguration moment. It canbe tempting to think that if we had access tosuch a supernatural revelation, our faith wouldbe strengthened and our lives would change.

But Jesus knows us best. He knows what we can

handle and he knows the perfect way to reveal

himself. For most of us, most of the time, this

means coming to know Jesus in the moreordinary ways of prayer, Scripture study, and the

sacraments.

Let's be sure we are ready to find Jesus there.

éQué montafia de nuestra Vida debemos de

escalar para ser testigos de la transfiguraciån de

Jesüs? Seguramente primero, debemos de escalar la

montafia de saber escucharlo y Ilevarlo hasta 10

profundo de nuestra Vida. Ademås, de abrir nuestro

coraz6n para tocar su presencia. Cuando Ileguemos

a la Cima de la montafia sentiremos la satisfacci6n

de haber trabajado y luchado hasta el cansancio

para lograr un mundo mås justo y humano. La

Cuaresma es un tiempo muy especial que la Iglesia

nos brinda cada afio para acompafiar a Jesüs hasta el

Monte Calvario. Este camino hacia la montafia

también es un paso de subir y escoger la visi6n de 10

divino, que fue 10 que Jesüs trat6 de hacer que sus

discipulos vieran, y escucharan 10 que venia. iSu

gloria !

"Ahi se transfigur6 en su presencia: su rostro

se puso resplandeciente como el sol y sus vestiduras

se volvieron blancas como la nieve" (Mt 17, 2). Estas

palabras del Evangelio son muy importantes para

tener en cuenta en nuestra oraci6n y tiempo de

trabajo durante los cuarenta dias, ya que son

nuestra esperanza en la Resurrecci6n. La cruz, si, eso

10 sabemos muy bien, primero, el sufrimiento

sublimado hasta el extremo por amor a una

sociedad mås justa. Para luego disfrutar de los frutos

del trabajo realizado en la Pascua ya cercana. No

olvidemos durante la semana que la Transfiguraci6n

es un regalo tangible de Dios para todas las personas

de fe. La semana pasada Jesüs nos invitaba a vencer

la tentaci6n para que al vencerla podamos ser

transfigurados en personas mås buenas. Tentaci6n y

gloria son parte de la Vida cotidiana. Se trata de

vencer para brillar en la sencillez del amor de Dios.
