Remember to register your children for Faith Formation! The Classes will start on Wednesday, September 18th. You can call Deacon Mike or the office if you have questions. The Backpack Program provides food on weekends for Children in Need in the Graon School District. Please consider a monetary donation to the Walsh County Food Program for this cause, and make sure to specify that it is for the Backpack Program. The funds are extremely low at this time. We continue to cast our nets into the deeper end of the spiritual life with the gift of Contemplative prayer. Whereas meditative prayer is the practical use of our intellect in the pursuit of God, Who is the truth, contemplative prayer is the application of our imagination in our relationship with God. Our imagination is a facet of our intellect, which is one of the attributes of our soul. It is spiritual in nature and manifested through our brain. We encounter it regularly on an unconscious level when we sleep. We call it dreaming. Most of the time when we dream, we are simply dealing with our psychological and emotional state operating on a subconscious level. However, body and soul are joined, even on an unconscious level. God has access to this and can act through it. In the Gospel of St. Matthew, we find God communicated with the Magi through a dream, and spoke thrice with St. Joseph through his dreams (ref Mt 2:12-13, 19-23). God created our imagination. It is a dimension of our being made in His image and likeness. When God fashions an object or creature in His divine mind, He causes it to exist from nothing. What was nothing has now become something. He created the angels and the whole universe in this way. We, too, can envisage something in our mind that does not yet exist in reality. Although, we cannot call it into being like God can, it can be present nonetheless in our imagination. For example, we can picture an animal that is half horse, half tiger. There’s no way it can exist in the real world, but it can be present in our mind. Exercising our imagination is an active reflection of the creative power of the Almighty. It reveals an aspect of our being made in the image and likeness of God the Creator. Since our imagination is a gift from God it should be oriented towards our relationship with Him. It can be used in prayer. Next week, I will give a basic understanding how to enter into Contemplative prayer. Mission Statement To walk by Faith, to be known by Love and to be a Beacon of Light in our community. We are asking that you pray 3 Hail Marys after each Mass for people to come back to their Catholic Faith. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eucharist Schedule Saturday:5:00 pm - St. John’s, Grafton Sunday: 7:30 am - Sacred Heart, Oakwood 9:30 am - St. John’s, Grafton 11:30 am - Mass in Spanish, Grafton Reconciliation Saturday: 4:00 - 4:45 pm - St. John’s Sunday: 7:10 am - Sacred Heart, Oakwood 9:00 - 9:15 am - St. John’s ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Parish Office: 352-1648 Fr.

Thank you for celebrating Commitment Sunday with us this weekend. Your commitment to our parish through our “To Follow Christ the Light that Shines Forever” program will continue to bring life to our community. If completing your commitment card was not possible at Mass, an invitation to respond will be mailed later this week to your home. Please return your Commitment Card to the office this week or in next week’s collection. If you have not yet done so, join the many others and give your gift online through our electronic giving program.

Are you interested in being an Extraordinary Minister ofHoly Communion? Have you been serving, or are you new to serving? There will be a training session for new and old ministers with Fr. Jeff on Thursday, September 26th at 6:15-7:00 pm in the Church.

Some have enquired about the building projects in the parish office. We are putting up 2 walls, in order to create a room for Fr. Jeff and staff members to meet with people for funerals, and other pastoral needs, and the other room will become a rectory Chapel.

Stewardship Moment - “Everything I have is yours.” Luke 15:31 Our Heavenly Father gives us everything, including the chance to share in His eternal kingdom. Yet, like the Prodigal Son, we are often lured away by the materialism of our society. Do we really want to turn our backs on all that God offers in exchange for a material wealth that has no lasting value?

Weekly Prayer of the Faithful Petitions - That we understand each of us has a unique role in building God’s kingdom and to share our gifts beyond our parish boundaries.

It takes a Village…. of Parishioners to plan and execute our annual Fall Dinner here at St. John’s. Whatever your talent, there is a spot for you!

Bell Tower - As many of you know, we have recently had the bells ringing again. After a few months of the bells operating every day, the mechanical clock started to malfunction. The clock and motors used to ring the bells are all original equipment dating back to 1963.The company that originally installed the bells is still in business and we have contacted them for a bid to replace the clock mechanism with a newer digital format that will make it more reliable and easier to use. It will, also, give us more options as to how and when to ring the bells. The cost will be approximately $5,000 to purchase and install this new equipment. We are asking anyone who is willing to help offset these costs to please call the parish office or contribute on line. Please help us to get the bells ringing again.
