Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament - will be on Sunday, August 4th, from 1:00-3:00 pm. Please join us for some or all of this time of prayer. Summer Family Night Wednesday, August 14th Holy Day of Obligation Thursday, August 15th Confirmation for Hispanic Ministry will be on Sunday, August 11th, at the 11:30 a.m. Spanish Mass. Please pray for them. Growing up Methodist, I had no understanding of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s continuous role in the mystery of salvation, apart from the fact that she is the mother of Jesus. Her name would come up around Christmas time, but other than that, I never heard mention of her. We were taught to pray only to God. I had no concept of praying for the dead or having the Saints pray for us. Hence, when I became Catholic, my greatest challenge was not in believing the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, or the primacy of the Pope, or the sacrament of Confession. My greatest difficulty was relating to Mary. I carried a prejudice toward her that was hard to shake. I taught myself how to pray the Rosary, and was excited to learn it, but found it to be dry prayer. I thought, “Why do I really need to pray to her? After all, she is only human, and not God.” Studying what the Catholic Church taught regarding Mary made me realize the problem was in myself and not with her. I had a spiritual blockage in my heart that I couldn’t seem to overcome. Then one wonderful day, all that changed. In the process of my conversion, I became involved with charismatic prayer. This means I was exercising various gifts of the Holy Spirit, one of them being the gift of tongues. While praying in a chapel with a few friends, we all began to praise God in the Spirit. Suddenly, I was caught up in a song in tongues that just burst from my lips. After a moment, the Spirit gave me understanding of what I was singing. The language was Italian, and it was a love song to Mary. Immediately, a powerful feminine presence enveloped my entire being. Motherly love poured into my heart and tears flowed from my eyes. I felt the tender embrace of the Blessed Virgin Mary herself. She actually held me! And she loved me! She really loved me with a mother’s love for her child! All my issues with her disappeared in an instant. As I left the chapel that day, all I could say through sobs and tears and in joyful bewilderment was, “I have a heavenly Mother!” Praying the Rosary came easily after that. I’m so happy the Holy Spirit introduced me to His beautiful Spouse, who is, also, the Mother of God and my Momma too. Pray the Rosary daily and unite your heart to the compassionate Heart of Mary who loves you with a Mother’s love. Don’t be afraid to get close to her. She’s an awesome Momma. May God be praised and may you be blessed! Mission Statement To walk by Faith, to be known by Love and to be a Beacon of Light in our community. We are asking that you pray 3 Hail Marys after each Mass for people to come back to their Catholic Faith. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eucharist Schedule Saturday:5:00 pm - St. John’s, Grafton Sunday: 7:30 am - Sacred Heart, Oakwood 9:30 am - St. John’s, Grafton 11:30 am - Mass in Spanish, Grafton Reconciliation Saturday: 4:00 - 4:45 pm - St. John’s Sunday: 7:10 am - Sacred Heart, Oakwood 9:00 - 9:15 am - St. John’s ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Parish Office: 352-1648 Fr. Stewardship Moment - “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9 Jesus assures us that if we ask, God will take care of what we need. The problem is that our culture often confuses what we really need with what we simply want. Many people need very little. However, we usually want so much more. A good steward only asks God for what he needs.

Weekly Prayer of the Faithful Petitions - That we may learn to see the difference between the things we need and the things we want.
