MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

Peace and good! We welcome Brother James and Brother Jason to the parish as transitional deacons. They were ordained to the diaconate on November 5, 2016 by the Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown, Most Reverend Mark Leonard Bartchak. As the newly ordained deacons begin their diaconate ministry here at the parish, parishioners continue to ask questions re-garding the ministry of a deacon. One of the most recent ques-tions asked was: What is the role of a Deacon during the Mass? Father Pat shared the following information with us as priests as we prepare to celebrate Mass with a deacon. The role of the deacon during Mass is:

Introductory Rites • Carries the Book of the Gospels in procession • Kisses the altar with the Presider • Announces the invocations for Penitential Act, Form C

Liturgy of the Word • Proclaims the Gospel after receiving blessing from

Presider • Blessing: “May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips, that you may proclaim his Gospel worthily and well, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

• Preaches the homily as scheduled • Reads the Petitions of the Universal Prayer from the

ambo

Preparation of the Altar • Prepares the Altar • Prepares the Chalice (wine & water) • Hands the Paten & Chalice to the Presider

Eucharistic Prayer • Kneels from epiclesis to the Memorial Acclamation • Elevates the Chalice during the doxology

Communion Rite • Announces “Let us offer each other the sign of peace” • Assists Celebrant by distributing the Chalice to the • Extraordinary Ministers • Distributes Communion at station next to the Celebrant • Purifies the vessels at the altar

Concluding Rite • If there is a Solemn Blessing: Announces “Bow Down for the Blessing”

• Announces the Dismissal “Go in Peace,” etc. • Kisses the Altar with Presider • Processes out to the right of the Presider

In the peace of Francis of Assisi,

Holy Father’s Prayer Intentions for November

Universal: COUNTRIES RECEIVING REFUGEES That the countries which take in a great number of displaced persons and refugees may find support for their efforts which show solidarity.

Evangelization: COLLABORATION OF PRIESTS AND LAITY That within parishes, priests and lay people may collaborate in service to the community, without giving in to the temptation of discouragement.

THANKSGIVING BREAK

On Thanksgiving Day Weekend, November (Sat.) 26th and (Sun.) 27th, there will not be any catechism classes held. How-ever, there will be classes held the Monday and Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 28th & 29th).

Religious Christmas cards are available for purchase after all Masses the weekend of November 19-20 by the Knights of Columbus to raise money for our Parish scholarship and local charities. Help "Keep Christ in Christmas" by sending religious cards - an evangelization message from you! Cards will be available for immediate pickup and orders delivered at subse-quent weekend masses. If you have any questions contact Jeff Sander at [email protected].

Thanksgiving Day Mass is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. (there will be no 6:30 or 8:00 a.m. Masses, so that we all offer Thanks to God in a larger community setting.) We all have so much to be thankful for, for family, friends, and food, as well as for the countless other blessings God has given us. So please, feel free to bring something from your Thanksgiving table to be blessed. I’ve seen salt and pepper, rolls, desserts or wine brought forth. Tables will be near the sanctuary and after the homily the friars will bless the food. Don’t forget to take your food home after Mass and share the blessing with your family.

THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR OF THE WEEK
