Activities 2014-2019
VISION AND MISSION:
VISION:
To empower women to realize their potential and compete for equal opportunities in
building a successful home and career.
MISSION:
To uplift the girls socially and intellectually, the cell conducts various awareness
camps- health, legal, entrepreneurship, defense techniques, etc in order to equip
them with the right knowledge for a life of equality, empowerment, personal
enhancement and professional success.To empower them in raising their voice
against Gender Discrimination/Injustice/Violence.
To spread social awareness through street plays, marathons, etc.
To provide a platform for girls and women to share their experiences and views
regarding their status in the society and to suggest ways to improve and empower
themselves.

The Committee met on 06 June 2018 to outline the programmes to be conducted
for the academic year 18-19 which includes Awareness, Empowerment and
Capacity Building Programmes for the empowerment of girls and Women faculty .
Academic Year 2014-15
Event: Women Empowerment Cell -Induction Program & Registration of
New Girl Students
Resource person: Mrs.Pushpa Leela, Former Minister welfare,
Mrs.Christina Lazarus, Former MLA.
To promote awareness and commitment to the elimination of violence against
women, the Women Empowerment Cell conducted an unusual activity on 14th
August 2014 where in all the boys of the college were asked to tale a pledge in the
name of their mothers that they will “Always treat all women with dignity and
respect; never physically or mentally abuse any women. The formal women
empowerment session that followed had Miss.Christine Lazarus ex MlA
Mrs.Pushpaleela Ex MLA ,who motivated the girls to realise their dreams. 300
students actively participated in the event.
Event: Cancer Awareness Programme:
A cancer awareness programme was conducted on 23 January 2014, in the
college campus to create A to Z awareness on “Prevention and Detection” of
cancer. The right life style & diet & an awareness regarding basic symptoms of
Cancer. The Resource person was Dr/ Susheela Narayan Surgeon Oncology
Department. A total of 110 students were a part of the event.
Academic Year 2015-16
Event: International Women’s Day Celebrations:
Students of St.Joseph’s Degree & PG college performed a Dance Ballad on the
theme of Women Empowerment and were the proud collaborators of International
Womens Day celeberations organised by City Police at Peoples Plaza on 8th March
2015. The girl students also took part in “Run , Cycle and Walk rally to support the
theme of the event – Safety and security of women …make it happen. The Women
Empowerment Cell also Organised a health awareness session wherein Dr.Krupa
Patalay from The Fernandez Hospital addressed women faculty on a range of gynaec
issues ,like preventive care for Cancer,health alerts and health care for menopausal
women,etc.The session culminated into'Ask the Doctor session' segment where the
doctor personally addressed individual queries. The program garnered a positive
feedback with faculty asking for more such programs.
Academic Year 2016-17
Event: CYBER CRIME AND WOMEN'S SAFETY Girl students attended Seminar on- "CYBER CRIME AND WOMEN'S SAFETY"
on 23rd January, 2017 at Osmania Medical College Auditorium, Koti, Hyderabad
wherein they interacted with the city police's SHE TEAMS.
Event: 5K RUN 5K RUN on the eve of International Women's Day Celebrations: 5K Run -A She
team initiative on 5 March, 2016 with 706 Josephites, responded to the clarion call
in support of The Women's cause by participating in the 5k Marathon organized by
the City police/the she team on People's plaza.
Event: My Body. My City. My Space My Body. My City. My Space- A U.S. Consulate initiative- On 5 March the young
Josephites along with the Women Empowerment cell coordinator Dr..Sangeetha and
the NSS coordinator, Mrs.Aparna lent their voice to the slogan "My Body, My City,
My Space"...that's what women in Hyderabad want to reclaim this International
Women's Day and they made this loud and clear, when over 200 of them from all
walks of life assembled at the Chacha Nehru Park for a 2- kilometre walk to spread
their message.
Event: Guest lecture on Women in the Society and challenges Guest lecture on Women in the Society and challenges ahead was conducted on the
occasion of International Women’s Day celebration on 8th March 2017. Ms.
Sunitha, DSP, Anti Corruption Bureau. Ms. Sunitha shared her experience holding
responsible position as DCP, a home maker and the work-life balance.
Event: Awareness on Self Defence by SHE TEAM Awareness on Self Defence by SHE TEAM, Govt. of Telangana: The programme
was conducted on 8th February, 2017 in collaboration with SHE TEAM, Govt. of
Telangana for all the girls on the campus with an objective to create “Self awareness
and learn few tricks for Self Defence”. The programme was headed by Mr. Mahesh
Goud, SI, SHE Team.
Event: The International Women's Day Celebrations The International Women's Day Celebrations at St. Joseph's campus: Women’s Day
was celebrated on 8th March 2016 in the campus. On this day St. Joseph's campus
reverberated with male voices , which included male faculty and boys as they took
a pledge in the name of their mother to " always treat all women with dignity and
respect"...and never "to physically or mentally abuse any women". This was
followed by a short program "He for She" which included a flash mob and a street
play to raise awareness on the issues faced by women. The Women's Day
Celebrations on the extended campus saw DSP Sunitha Reddy hold an inspirational
session on Women Safety and Women's rights to motivate the students towards
establishing a world of equals. The session ended with prize distribution for the
various competitions held on the eve of International Women's Day,viz.,slogan
writing,Poetry ,Painting on the theme of Women.

Event: A Panel discussion on women and child safety by Our WEC
A Panel discussion on women and child safety by Our WEC Coordinators, Raell
Bose and Varalakshmi who proactively contributed by airing their views and
suggestions on the topic. Our Eminent Panelists included Mr. Nayini Narasimha
Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Home, Shri. Mahendra Reddy, Commissioner of
Police Hyderabad, Dr. Tripurna, Hon’ble Chair Person TS Women Commission,
Hyderabad and Ms. Swati Lakra, ACP Crimes and SIT, Hyderabad.
Event:An Awareness Workshop on Abuse:
Women Empowerment Cell in collaboration with the department of Psychology
conducted an awareness workshop for UG girl students of St.Josephs on 5
October, by Ms Zaina the Counsellor.
Event: International guest lecture on "The Challenges and Prospects of
Women empowerment”:
The Women empowerment Cell of St.Joseph's college hosted an international guest
lecture on "The Challenges and Prospects of Women empowerment" on 3
February 2018.The Resource person Dr.Amy Piedalue, post doctoral research
fellow(Gender studies) from University of Melbourne,delivered an insightful talk
to the girl students and women faculty.
Sessions on a) cyber crimes and Violence against Women
b) Defense Techniques for Girls
As part of Interational Women’s Day St.Joseph’s in collaboration with SHE
Teams organized A Marshall Arts Training Session given by Karate Trainer
N.Lakshmi, followed by a session conducted on cyber crimes by Mr.Suresh , Sub
– Inspector and Mr.Dilip, Asst Sub-Inspector. Lastly Mr. Madan Mohan, Sub-
Inspector, addressed the girls on Violence against Women and the strategies to
combat it.
Event: International Women’s Day celebrations:
As part of International Women’s Day celebrations, the Women Empowerment
Cell collaborated with an NGO- Voice of Girls to conduct a range of interactive
sessions/activities on the theme of “Gender Justice and Gender Equality” by Ms
Kamakshi (Ms.Telangana), Ms.Shezi (Radio Jockey) from the NGO – Voice of
Girls at the extended campus on 8 March, 2018.

IN COLLOBORATION WITH
VOICE OF GIRLS
Event: 5K Run in support of Women Safety for a #CrimefreeHydcity#:
Women Empowerment Cell rendered support to the SHE teams by participating in
the 5K Run on 4 March 2018 at Necklace Road for #CrimefreeHydcity# . About
120 Josephites along with the co-coordinator Dr. Sangeetha enthusiastically
participated in the run on the eve of International Women’s Day. The Run had
SHE teams DIG Swati Lakra(IPS, Addl comm. Of Police) and Vijay
Devarakonda(Film Actor) actively taking part along with the enthusiasts.
Academic Year 2018-19
Event: A seminar on “Women and Law”
To promote legal awareness the Women Empowerment Cell conducted a seminar
on “Women and Law” on 13 July 2018. The panel had Advocates of High Court
Mrs Keerti karba, Ms Trupti Agarwal and Ms Swaroopa who equipped the
students with legal know-how of the relevant acts and sections on the topics of
Sexual Harassment, Property Rights and Domestic Violence and also gave
guidelines on complaints and redressal mechanisms. This was followed by an
interactive session wherein the girls clarified their doubts about laws pertaining to
women’s rights. The Chief Coordinators of the event included Mrs. Aarti Samala ,
Asst.Prof (Dept of Commerce) and Dr. Sangeetha Motkar(coordinator, WEC).
Event: Young Thinker’s Conference on Women Empowerment:
Josephites along with WEC coordinator Dr. Sangeetha Motkar participated
in The Young Thinkers’ Conference on Women Empowerment n jointly organized
by ISB and British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad on November 16 2018 at
ISB. The Speakers included Kavitha Kalvakuntla(MP), Andrew
Fleming(British Deputy High Commissioner, Hyd), Professor Milind G
Sohoni, Deputy Dean, ISB.
As part of International Women’s Day celebrations the following programs were
held:
Event: Entrepreneurship awareness program for girls in collaboration with
WE HUB, a Telangana Government initiative was conducted on 7 March 2019
with Durga Ravindran , Praneetha Reddy from WE-HUB and Varun Mali from
British Deputy High Commission as Resource persons for the event.
