God Hears Cries of Agony

Today’s readings remind us of one thing that is for some, forever in our minds. Cut and dry and crystal clear: God hears cries of agony.

We have only to look at our family and friends who are still suffering the atrocities of hurricanes and wildfires. Sometime the pain we see, silences us. There is little we can say of any substance or meaning.

When we try to make sense of it, we try looking to the scriptures and even theological reflections on the topic of suffering. Some turn out to be insufficient, inappro-priate and at best awkward. If we are not careful it turns out to be meaningless. At best, we can listen and only hear, and respond, with compassion. Today we are re-minded that God hears and suffers with us. It’s hard to imagine.

If all time is present to God, then so is all suffering. The cry of people, all people, from age to age, pierces the heavens. God hears. Maybe what makes this all beara-ble, to Him, is that all of those acts of kindness we do in the midst of suffering are also held in timelessness, with God.

If so, in loving one another, helping one another, giving, serving and comforting, we are also tending to the wounds of our God. It is our response to Jesus’ plea; Love One Another.

Deacon Corney

Life Chain Sunday Today, Sunday, October 29, 2:00 to 3:30 P.M.

Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 90 minutes praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual state-ment of solidarity by the Christian community that abor-tion kills children and that the Church supports the sanc-tity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death. St. Justin Martyr will be standing on the North (or East) side of Hwy 6 between HWY 59 and Town Center Blvd.

Today, Sunday, October 29th, there will be a service of prayer in the chapel in support of those who will pub-licly witness in the LIFE CHAIN on HW6. The service will start at 1:30 p.m. with a blessing for those who will go to the highway. From 2:00 p.m. till 3:30 p.m., the service will include the Silver Rose sponsored by the Columbian Squires and the Knights of Columbus. At 4:00 p.m., one of the witnesses will come from HW 6 and give a report on the LIFE CHAIN event. All are invited to join in prayer for the end of abortion and of all the attacks on human life.
