CELEBRATE WITH YOUR PARISH SCHOOL!

In one week, we will be kicking off Catholic Schools Week to celebrate Catholic education. The Catholic Schools Week theme this year is Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service. Our parish school has many events and programs planned to bring light to the unique and valuable impact that Catholic schools have not only on our children, but on the community at large. We have daily themes to celebrate our parish, community, students, nation, vocations, faculty, staff and volunteers, and our families.

PRAYING THE NEWS

January 24, 2016

…in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body…

1 Cor 12:13

Dear God, we thank you that the Ebola epidemic has greatly waned. We pray for all who still suffer its

effects, and for all who continue the efforts to prevent its recurrence.

We know how interconnected our lives truly are. Please, Lord, help all in Brazil and elsewhere now

affected by the Zika virus – especially unborn children. Grant that a

vaccine will be developed quickly.

Jesus, we trust in you and your healing power.

Amen. †

STEWARDS AMONG US ZennyPancho

WhenZennyandEddie Panchomoved here in2004, she likedourbigandbusyparishandfoundthepeopletobe“very hospitableandwelcoming.”She added, “I’msogratefulforall

theactivepeoplewhodosomuchfortheparish, butI’mcalledtoserveinadifferentway. My apostolate is prayer. We needthat, too.” Zenny is a member of theSecular Order of Discalced Carmelites, whose members profess “fidelity tocontemplative prayer with the spirit ofdetachment it entails.” Zenny prioritizesher days around her prayer andmeditationtime.Shelovesspendingtimeas an Adorer in the Chapel of DivineMercy, she is a member of ourContemplative Prayer group, and twice amonth, she visits Methodist Hospital tobring Holy Communion to the sick. Shesays, “We are all called to a deeperrelationshipwithGod…aswedothis,Hislove will radiate to other people, to theentire parish and to the whole Church.”SheisinspiredbythewordsofSt.ThérèsedeLisieux,“WhenIdie,Iwillsenddownashower of roses from the heavens; I willspend my heaven by doing good onearth.”

CatechismCornerAnswerstoyourquestionsfromtheCatechismoftheCatholicChurch.

Q.Isitpossibletoprayalways?

A. Prayer isalwayspossible. Prayer isvitally necessary. Prayer and life cannotbe separated. You cannot keep Godcontentwithafewwordsinthemorningorevening.Ourlifemustbecomeprayer,andourprayersmustbecomelife.EveryChristian life story is also a story ofprayer, onelongattempttoachieveevergreater union with God. Because manyChristians experience a heartfelt longingto be with God constantly, they turn tothe so-called "Jesus prayer", which hasbeen an age-old custom particularly inthe Eastern Churches. The person whoprays it tries to integrate a simpleformula – the most well-known formulais "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, havemercy on me, a sinner" – into his dailyroutine in such away that it becomes aconstantprayer.

ASK PAULA

Q. Whyisitpeopledon’tmoveoverinthepewduringMass?

A. I know, right? Everyonewants to sit ontheend.Iusedto, butnowmyhusbandMark just automatically goes to themiddle of the pew when we go Mass, usually the 7:30am Sunday morning.Trustme, afteracoupletimesofsittinginthemiddleyoudon’tevenmiss theend.Try it! A couple of weeks ago, I waswatchingamomcarryingababytryingtoget into the pew and the person on theendwouldnotmove, insteadshejustsatthere while the mom was struggling toget in thepew. Imean, common sense!MOVEover, justsaying. Andbeforeyouask, the person on the end was NOT aEucharistic minister. I know that theyhavetositontheendsotheycangetupto serve communion… but not everyoneonanendisone.Justsaying.
