The Our Lady of Guadalupe Scripture Challenge, Part 2: The Acts of the Apostles

As you recall, last year after Labor Day I presented to the Parish “The Gospel Challenge,” and I challenged all of us to read and pray with the 4 Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. If you remember, there were 89 Chapters in all of the Gospels, and this took us about 3 months to complete. I received positive feedback from many parishioners, and many of you told me that is was the first time they really read through each of the Gospels. This is the next scriptural challenge I present to you: The Acts of the Apostles. The Acts of the Apostles is story of the early Church after the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. We will be proclaiming from the Acts of the Apostles at Mass almost every day in the Easter Season. This book contains the story of Pentecost, the Coming of the Holy Spirit, the Conversion of St. Paul, St. Stephen, and the activity of St. Peter as the Church was established. Like last year, I ask you to commit to reading one chapter a day, which is only a few pages. We can do this! In the Acts, there are 28 Chapters, so together we will complete this challenge in 28 days. Can you commit to reading one Chapter a day for the next 28 days? Perhaps couples can read the chapter together, and parents can read the chapter with their children? Each week I will publish in our bulletin and social media questions and reflections that pertain to the 7 chapters to be read that particular week. I encourage you to pick up a notebook and write down what moves you as you read the chapter each day. Quiet your heart and soul and walk with Saints Peter and Paul and encounter the Holy Spirit at work in the early Church. We plan to begin the Acts of the Apostles Challenge on Monday, May 13th, so we can complete our reading, very appropriately, on Pentecost Sunday, June 9th. The story of The Acts of the Apostles does not really end. We continue the story of Christ Alive in our hearts as we share the joy of the Gospel.

I pray the Holy Spirit moves us just as the Holy Spirit inspired the early Church. Come, Holy Spirit!

God Bless you and your family, Father Vince

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente
