Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In today’s Gospel, Jesus performed his first miracle requested by his Mother, Mary, during
the wedding at Cana. The miracle of the transformation of water into good wine. First of all,
Jesus already had the intention to perform this miracle when he went to the wedding; however he still waited
for Mary to ask first since he wanted humanity to realize that the Blessed Virgin Mary was their intercessor
constantly in the presence of God in heaven. Secondly, since love in the family begins at the wedding and
wine is the sign of joyful celebration of love, then, when the “sign” of joy runs out, the celebration would not
be complete. With Jesus’ presence, love must endure and joy must be complete. For this reason, Jesus trans-
formed the water into wine to prolong the couple’s celebration of love and make their joy complete. More-
over, this miracle did not only serve for this temporary purpose; rather it also signified the kind of love and
joyful celebration which will last forever. At Cana, the water being transformed into wine, later on, wine will
be transformed into blood, and blood will transform those who drink it into everlasting joy at the heavenly
banquet. Today there are so many couples and families “running” out of joy and celebration of their love be-
cause their wine is “running” out. Also the One who causes love, the One who can prolong their joy, the One
who can transform the “flat wine into good wine” is not there to perform miracles for them. He is not there
not because he did not want to come; but rather He was not invited to the “wedding”, as well as the One who
would request the miracle was not invited either. It is not too late to invite them now when there is still a
chance, it is not too late if the flame of love is not yet extinguished, and the celebration is not completely
over. Mary and Jesus please come to our “wedding”, please come to our celebration of love, our marriages,
our families, and our lives before we run out of the last drop of “wine”. - Fr. Joe Pham

Convocation of Catholic Leaders:
The Joy of the Gospel in South Jersey
As Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, Bishop Dennis Sullivan, with a strong recommendation from
representatives of the clergy and the laity of the Diocese, has called for the “Convocation of Catholic
Leaders: The Joy of the Gospel in South Jersey” which will take place from March 25 to 28, 2019 at the
Harrah’s Casino Resort in Atlantic City. The Bishop believes that the future of the Church in South Jersey is
heavily weighted on its pastors and the faithful who are charged with evangelical fervor as missionary
disciples, who will light the fire of the Gospel of joy across the diocese. Instructed by Bishop Sullivan, I
have chosen ten faithful parishioners who are filled with enthusiasm to form a team together with me to
participate in this faith-filled convocation. I ask everyone please keep praying for the team and I that we may
be inspired and be on fire when we return from this Convocation. Please pray this prayer at home with your
family:
Prayer for the 2019 Convocation of Catholic Leaders: Joy of the Gospel in South Jersey
O Holy Spirit, you who first enkindled in our hearts the joy of the Gospel,
renew that same joy in those who will gather to attend the Convocation of Catholic Leaders: Joy of the
Gospel in South Jersey.
Continue to enflame the hearts of our Bishop, priests, and their parish delegations, all religious, and speak-
ers, all who make this event possible.
Move us to welcome the word of life in the depths of our hearts and respond to the call of missionary
discipleship.
O Holy Spirit, transform our hearts and enable us to enter into the perfect communion that you share with the
Father and the Son.
Mary Immaculate, who first received the Gospel, pray for us. Amen
