Prep Newsletter Friday
27th November 2015
Dear Parents and Friends,
With the weather becoming colder we have been wrapping up warmly
during break and lunchtimes whilst taking in the fresh air to play and
socialise. Please would you ensure that your daughter wears her school
coat, St Margaret’s hat and blue/navy gloves each day to school.
Whilst the weather was on the chilly side outside, it was certainly balmy
in the swimming pool area during the gala between St Margaret’s and St
Hilda’s. Our girls swam to the best of their ability and felt proud of their
personal achievements. They cheered wildly, supporting their team
mates, until they were hoarse. The final result was incredibly close and
had to be recounted, resulting in a draw. It was a pleasure to see so
many supporting parents.

Assembly
Afrah’s Mummy, Dr Shora, visited
us this week and led us in an
inspirational assembly all about
becoming a Doctor. The girls
discovered how to become a
Doctor, the training and the
options available to specialise. Dr
Shora left us with these words:
“BELIEVE IN YOURSELF - You
can do and be whatever you chose
to be .”
Thank you for your time Dr Shora
and for sharing your passion. We
were all truly inspired.
Senior School Play
On Wednesday the Upper Prep went to see
the Senior School play ‘Bring It On’ and
had a wonderful time. So much so that
they wanted to see it again. I hope that
some of you were able to take up the
opportunity to see it, as it was excellent,
with many wonderful actors, singers and
dancers. Please see the Year 4 page for
the children’s reactions to the play.
Independent projects
Sienna in Year 5
recently produced an
excellent powerpoint
presentation for her
class about Diwali.
I love it when children
independently research
and put together a
piece of work or a
project to share with
their class. I would be
delighted if your
daughter would like to
independently improve
her learning in an area of interest as this inevitably would develop her
independent learning skills and help her to become more critical and
reflective. In addition, by presenting to her class she should hopefully
gain presentational skills whilst becoming more confident. The
audiences of the projects so far have been very encouraging and
appreciative.
The project should be initiated by the child and be completed
independently, enabling her to develop and apply skills creatively,
demonstrating initiative and enterprise. Skills learned in the classroom
will inevitably be transferred into the project, and vice versa. This is
therefore an exciting initiative, although one that is completely voluntary.

Reception
Reception Class have enjoyed learning about
‘The Very First Christmas Story’. They have
written their own book, made stained glass
windows and a group collage.
Year 1
This week we have been
exploring forces in
Science. We have had
fun investigating
pushes and pulls using
toy cars.
f
Year 2 have been working very hard in their Science
lessons and all the girls have learnt how to use some
basic scientific equipment. They have recently learnt
about the water cycle. They used ice cubes to find out
about freezing and melting and then used a pipette and
some hot water to melt just the centre of an ice cube.
This was quite tricky to do without melting the whole
cube! They then decided to string all the ice cubes
together to make a “crystal” necklace!
Year 2
Year 3
We have had exciting Art lessons bringing wooden spoons to life.
Bit by bit we worked on them adding faces, arms, hair and exciting
finishing touches.
Now they are finished we feel very proud of them.
In the middle of the night when the school is quiet we think that,
maybe, they come to life.
If you listen hard when the stars are out you might hear music….. We
think that they have lots of fun!
Year 4
On Wednesday all of the Upper Prep went to see the Senior
School production of 'Bring It On', a play about cheer leading,
teamwork, friendship and rivalry.
Priya: The play was exciting and I would love to have seen who
won the cheer leading championship.
Shriya: Fun, although there was a little meanness. Thankfully
everything was alright in the end.
Anaya: It was interesting and I was in suspense towards the end.
Melina: I am curious to find out what happens at the end because
we only saw the play highlights.
Aliyah: Funny, interesting, amazing. The music was very cheerful.
Maya: The dancing was energetic. I liked Olivia and Mrs Pimlott's
choreography.
Neha: The dancing was so enthusiastic and made me understand
more about the story.
Scarlet: The play was great and the acting, brilliant.
Zonye: The dancing was
spectacular. The characters
looked realistic.
Beatrice: The play was just
amazing and I especially
liked how they left me
thinking about what was
going to happen next.
Isabel: I really like the play
and have never seen
anything like it before.
Remi: I found it hard to
believe that people at our
school could be such good
dancers and actors.
Khushi: The dancing was incredible because it was energetic and
fun.
Milly: The costumes were miraculous and spectacular. I loved
how they sparkled during the dances.
Lili: I liked the singing because it made me feel very cheerful.
Anya: I loved it! At the end I was clapping so hard that my hands
were going to fall off!
Anna: I enjoyed the play, especially the dancing.
Riana: The dancing, singing and acting were very exotic. I loved
it!
Ishiya: The play was the best I have ever seen because it was just
so good.
Kaiyana: I was startled because everything was so enthusiastic. I
would like to do something like this in the future.
raising awareness
is very important
and afterwards
they wrote some
very powerful
stories and
designed colourful
eye catching
posters. Brilliant
work Year 5.
Year 5
Last week it was Anti-Bullying Week. Year 5 watched
Newsround which explored a range of ideas including whether
bullies should be helped or punished. The programme also
featured Sarah Story a successful paralympian who was
bullied at school. After watching the girls had a mature and
thoughtful discussion about the themes that arose. I was very
impressed by the ideas they expressed. They all agreed that
During Science lessons Year 6 have been trying out their new
stylish safety goggles! They used a spirit burner to heat some
different substances and recorded all the reactions on a chart.
All the girls have shown that they can be safe and sensible
during practical tasks. Some wonderful aromas wafted down
the staircase and were noticed by the younger girls, who
decided that the best smell was produced by heating sugar
until it turned into toffee!
Year 6
Maths Challenge
Well done to all the girls who tried the recent challenges on
the Mathematics board. The next challenges are now on
display in the classroom block. Girls are encouraged to solve
these in school or they can take them home to complete.
In Years 3 & 4 the following girls successfully completed the
‘Line up the clowns’ challenge and have been awarded a
commendation for their House!
