From the Desk of Sr. Claudia
“…although you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, you have revealed them to little ones” .
This is one of the two sayings in today’s Gospel which speaks of trust and confidence in His Word. When Christ calls his disciples to embrace the simple faith of “little ones”, he is not saying that our approach to faith should be brought down to the level of children, rather, He is calling us to embrace a faith that is centered in the love and compassion of God…..a love that is not compromised by self interest and compassion that is not measured but totally offered without limit or conditions. This simply means reaching out to the needs of others and not considering “what’s in it for me?”
The second part, “take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am meek and humble of heart” invites us to embrace the joyful sense of fulfillment that can only be realized by “learning” from his example of humility and gratitude and then take his yoke of humble service to one another.
We proclaim the Gospel most effectively, not in words, but in the generosity and concern we extend to others. This makes the word of God a living reality in our own time and place. Accepting the yoke God gives to us also comes with the reassurance that the yoke will not be more than what we can handle….it will lead us to humility in our spiritual journey.
This week, let’s look for opportunities to , not only carry our own burdens, but make other’s burdens lighter.
