Tuesday August 27 Saint Monica ndash died in 387 at Ostia born in Tagaste in Roman Africa after thirty

years of prayer she obtained the conversion of her dissolute pagan husband under the guidance of St

Ambrose she won the conversion of her eldest son Augustine patroness of mothers

Wednesday August 28 Saint Augustine Bishop Doctor of the Church ndash died in 430 in Hippo Regius (now

modern day Annaba Algeria) born in Tagaste north Africa (now Souk Abras Algeria) after a dissolute

life he received baptism at age thirty-three from St Ambrose elected bishop of Hippo Regius combat-

ted Manichees the Donatists and Pelagius most noted for his Confessions and City of God over 500

homilies are extant considered a founder of monastic life in the West his Rule (whose mantra for com-

munity life is anima una et cor unum in Deum) is observed by some 100 religious communities today one

of the four great doctors of the Latin Church called the ldquoDoctor of Gracerdquo

Thursday August 29 The Passion of Saint John the Baptist ndash Todayrsquos Memorial originates in the celebra-

tion of the dedication perhaps on this day of the church of St John at Sebaste (Samaria) where accord-

ing to tradition John the Baptist was buried by his disciples

Saint Mary Magdalene RCIA program is inviting anyone who would like to learn and understand more about the Catholic faith to an inquiry class on Tuesday August 27 2019 from 630 pm to 800 pm

Who participates in RCIA Non-Catholics who have been baptized in another faith and who want to learn more about the Catholic faith Un-baptized who might want to join the Catholic Church Those who have been baptized Catholic but have not received the sacraments of Confirmation or First Eucharist through religious education

Journey Through Scripture is designed to help us grow in our knowledge of Scripture

points forward and is fulfilled by Jesus Christ and His Church

Wednesday August 28 Saint Augustine Bishop Doctor of the Church ndash died in 430 in Hippo Regius (now

modern day Annaba Algeria) born in Tagaste north Africa (now Souk Abras Algeria) after a dissolute

Journey Through Scripture is designed to help us grow in our knowledge of Scripture

while deepening our understanding of the riches of our faith This study considers

both the Old and New Testaments and how they work together We will study the

principal covenants that God made with His people and how each of these covenants

points forward and is fulfilled by Jesus Christ and His Church
