Blood Drive — February 7th, 2016
Our parish will hold a blood drive on Sunday, February 7th in the Family Life Center from 8:30 A.M. – 2:30 P.M. You
can sign up for an appointment after Mass at the back of the church. The Blood Center sends personnel and equipment based on our number of appointments, so it is important that you sign up if
you think you may be able to donate. When you donate, you save up to 3 lives. You also get points that can be exchanged for mer-
chandise at giveblood.org. All blood types are needed.

“A sense of deep communion with the rest of nature cannot be real if our hearts lack tenderness, compassion and concern for our fellow
human beings. It is clearly inconsistent to combat traf-ficking in endangered species while remaining com-
pletely indifferent to human trafficking, unconcerned about the poor, or undertaking to destroy another hu-man being deemed unwanted. This compromises the
very meaning of our struggle for the sake of the environment.

Jubilee Year of Mercy
Rave reviews greeted Jesus’s first hometown homily proclaiming a year of God’s mercy, but the mood turned violent when he went on to declare that God’s mercy embraces outsiders; it rejects distinc-tions between citizen and foreigner, acceptable and
unworthy, even sinner and saint. Far from being anyone’s per-sonal possession, God’s kingdom is open to everyone, God’s love unconditional, God’s mercy boundless. By this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis repeats Jesus’s challenge in today’s Gospel to broaden our horizons until our vision matches Jesus’s vision of every sinner as a potential saint, and each suffering stranger as our neighbor. Jesus, says Pope Francis, continually went beyond the law, keeping company with public sinners and even sharing meals with them to demonstrate that God’s mercy is “the beating heart of the Gospel” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12). To be truly Jesus’s disciples, such unconditional love and bound-less mercy must also be at the center of all we say and do.
Thursday, February 11, 2016 is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes and designated by the Vatican as "World Day of the Sick." We will celebrate the Anointing Mass on this day at 8:30 A.M. All are invit-ed to come to Mass and pray for all the sick as well as for those who take care of them. The Sacrament of the Sick is especially reserved for those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age. Following are some guidelines for the ap-propriate reception of the Sacrament of the Sick: • Those whose health is seriously impaired by sick-
ness or old age • Before surgery, if the surgery is caused by serious
illness • Elderly people who have become notably
weakened, even though no serious illness is pre-sent
• Seriously ill children who have sufficient use of reason to be strengthened by the Sacrament
• Those who have been anointed if they relapse after recovery or if the condition becomes more serious
To receive the Sacraments of the Church licitly, a Catholic is to be in a state of grace. Individual con-fession and absolution constitute the ordinary means by which a member of the faithful conscious of grave sin is reconciled with God and the Church (Canon 9b0), and one is obliged to confess faithfully his or her grave sins at least once a year (Canon 989). The Church also encourages us to receive the Sacrament of Penance frequently. You are encour-aged to receive the Sacrament of Penance prior to receiving the Sacraments of the Anointing of the Sick and Holy Communion on February 11, 2016. While it is possible that the sacrament could bring physical healing, Anointing of the Sick is primarily about the healing of hope and of the spirit. Above all, the sacrament allows the person who is ill to unite more closely to Christ’s Passion. This gives suffering a new meaning: a participation in the saving work of Jesus. This is a powerful witness that is for the good of the whole Church (CCC, nos. 1521-22)

Please be on time to pick up your child(ren) at the end of their CCE session! We are looking for a few adult cate-chists to fill in for other catechists who have moved away; if you are interested, please contact the Formation Of-fice. “Youth Nights”: We will be offering two fun youth events this week! High school youth will have a “Bowling Night” at Max Bowl this Sunday, January 31st from 6:30pm – 8:00pm; please contact Carissa for more details. Learn what inspires them to love and serve the Lord and how you can be blessed by meeting these wonderful and inspiring people! Tuesday, February 9 Baptism, Confirmation and Call to Serve Others How does our baptism animate us to be followers of Jesus? How do we live that out in our everyday lives? What struggles do you face in the world each day to do this?

In a world so greatly in need of God’s grace, many people need help to become Catholic or return to the practice of their Catholic faith. You can help. You don’t need to know a lot; you just need to care. Everything you need to serve will be given to you. We need people to offer hospitality and welcome, folks to set up and greet others, and people to help facilitate and walk the journey with our candidates. Learn more about the work of God that we are doing!
Agenda 7:00-7:30 Opening Prayer: Breaking Open of the Word (BOW) followed by brief announcements
and instructions. 7:30-8:30 Choose a table featuring the ministry in which you are involved or would like to learn
more about. We’ll do three “rounds” of about 15 minutes each; everyone will get to “visit” at least three groups of ministers and learn about three different ministries. Enjoy some splendid conversation!

ca de la puerta del cuarto de los niños.
Vengan y pregunten cualquier pregunta que tengan; los ministros que están presentes tratarán de asistirlos lo

Campaña de Donación de Sangre 7 de febrero 2016
Nuestra parroquia tendrá una campaña de donación de sangre el 7 de febrero en el Centro Familiar de 8:30 A.M. a 2:30 P.M. Pueden programar una cita después de misa en la
parte de atrás de la iglesia. El Centro de Sangre manda a per-sonal y materiales según nuestro número de citas. Es por esto que es sumamente importante que hagan una cita si piensan
que pueden donar. Las operaciones a veces son atrasadas por falta de sangre. Cuando donan sangre, salvan hasta tres vidas. También acumulan puntos que se pueden cambiar por mercan-cía en la página de internet giveblood.org. Se necesitan todos
tipos de sangre.
