Dear parish family, Epiphany of the Lord We celebrate this Sunday the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. Epiphany comes from Greek “epiphaneia” which means, ‘appearance’ or ‘manifestation.’ This feast is popularly known as the feast of the Three Kings. In recent years the Church made it a moveable feast to be celebrated on the first Sunday after New Year in order that the faithful would not miss this important Solemnity of the Church. Originally it was fixed on January 6 and it happens that this year it falls exactly on this date – the 12th day of Christmas. So still we can say Merry Christmas! Epiphany commemorates and celebrates principally the self-revelation of Jesus Christ as the Savior to the Gentiles (non-Jews, the magi) and that means all of us today who are non Jews. It is therefore the feast of the universal church. The magi brought with them gold, the gift bestowed on kings; frankincense, used to worship at the altar of God; and myrrh, used to prepare the dead body for embalming after death. These gifts represent the Kingly, Priestly, and Prophetic work of the Savior. Like the magi we bring him our gifts – gold of our love, the incense of our worship and praise, the myrrh of our sacrifices and sufferings for His sake. In this way we truly acknowledge him as Lord and Savior. There are also ‘three S’ associated on this Feast and let us have them. The first ‘S’ is, to See. The wise men saw the star and they followed. God tells us not to see with our physical eyes but to see with our hearts because God is in our hearts, His favorite place within us. The second ‘S’ is Search. The wise men were searching for Christ. They wanted to find the meaning of life and they found it in Christ and in living for others. God wants us to live a good life which is Christ centered and not egocentric. The last ‘S’ is Submit or to obey or it stands for Service. The wise men did this once they found Jesus and offered to Him the best of everything. Let us submit to His will and authority because His will and authority are the best for us. Serve Him with love & devotion. Let us see, search and serve and surely we will find what we have been looking for all these years. Happy Three Kings! Have a good week & blessings to all. Fr. Tony

P. Tony
