Pentecost
Reading I Acts 2: 1-11
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak.
Reflections: This year, our community
celebrates Pentecost in many different
places. In Acts of the Apostles, we hear of
the different languages being spoken. It
was incredible that everyone had the
ability to hear and understand. We come
with many words and ways to speak of our
experiences. Does the Holy Spirit fill me,
so I can listen and understand God’s place
among us?
Psalm 104 Lord, send out your Spirit,
and renew the face of the earth
Reading II 1 Corinthians 12: 3b-7, 12-13
In one Spirit we were baptized into one body.
Reflections: In Corinthians, we hear that
our differences are a gift of the Holy
Spirit. The Spirit does not offer
uniformity. We each are gifted with
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on the altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in word the needs of our people.
different abilities, roles, graces and functions.
Do I use the gifts I have received for the
benefit of others?
Sequence: Veni, Sancte Spiritus
Gospel
John 20: 19-23
As the Father sent me, so I send you.
Receive the Holy Spirit.
Reflections: In this passage in John’s gospel, Jesus invite followers beyond fear into disciples. For those who hear and understand, we know our call is to bring forgiveness alive in our world. Am I sent forth, renewing the face of the earth, by offering forgiveness and mercy?

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me. Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked enemy defend me. At the hour of my death call me,
bid me come to your side, that with your saints I may praise you forever and ever.

Pentecost Blessings!
We celebrate the gifts of the Spirit at home and in Church this year. The Holy Spirit strengthens Jesus' followers to live well.
By resuming public Masses, we witness to the Spirit. Our Confirmation students’ words on the bulletin board speak to hope. Our Universal Church called more women and men saints for how they lived their faith. Our nation suffers racial injustice as we saw brutality take the life of George Floyd.
Our parish patterns for praying together, celebrating graduates, and raising funds and inviting friends to our Gala/ Auction has changed. Our gifts of the Spirit remain: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and
interpretation of tongues (1 Cor 12:8-10). These gifts help us see new, creative ways to live our mission.
Live the Spirit of Pentecost! Pastoral Team
