Thank you also for your cards and gifts. They are certainly spiritually uplifting! I appreciate all your love and care ! I forgot to include in my thanks, Mary Ann Duling, for putting up that holy family in front of the church with its lighting. Thank you Mary Ann! I also miss to include one more winner in our Stewardship raffle draw: Marilyn Bradshaw won the “table top last supper” i n glass mount. Congrats Marilyn and thank you for your stewardship form. The new yea r is here! We should celebrate it with grati tude and hope. Gratitude! After all we are a steward- ship diocese, consequently a stewa rdship parish. As Christian disciples we are grateful for all the blessings we received in the year 2012! – Meals In His Name, First Communion, High School and 8 Grades Recognition, Totus Tuus, parish picnic/PSR bash, Bishop’s Visit, Fall Bazaar, to mention a few and especially the involve- ment of so many of you! We are grateful to all your support as we are grat eful to God! It is with hope that we now focus on 2013! This year we are preparing our High School PSR kids for the reception of the sacrament of confirma tion. It is set on April 21 at 4PM here at Saint Micha el. We are blessed with 35 kids from first year to 4 th year to be confirmed. Four of them are from Arma. We are also looking for- ward to the Easter Vigil where three of our candidates will be baptized and two will receive the sacrament of confirmation. What a blessing! The year 2013 is also our year of preparation for our celebration of the Saint Michael’s present church build- ing’s 50 th year anniversary of its construction! This church was built in 1964: groundbreaking ceremony was May 3 rd , and the construction was completed December 11, the altar was consecrated on December 16, and the first mass was celebrated on December 19, although this Church was officially dedicated on January 24 th , 1965! Written records showed that this is our third church building. The first one was built in 1879 at the old site of the southeast corner of Cherokee and Walnut. It was a sma ll frame building 40 x 20 f eet. The second church was built in 1926 at the same place. It was consecrated by bishop Schwertne r in October 17, 1926 where he also confirmed 32 kids on that occasion. With the help of t he pastoral council, hopefully we can finalize our plan for the spiritual re- newal of the parish! But we have also to pay attention to the material aspect of the church. Materially, is there a need to im- prove our Church facility that may help our parish grow as a parish community? We have been menti oning a bit of this the past months and now it has come to the time that we have to discuss this as a congregation. There has been a lot of interest regarding updating the facili- ties of the St. Michael Catholic Church. There are many aspects to consider. With the Finance and Pastoral Councils, we have been developing concepts. Please listen and watch for announce- ments in February regarding parish meetings to elicit your input. Final concepts will be presented to the parish and the Bishop for consideration this Spring 2013. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jerry Hanson and his family for the death of his mom, Dorothy Hanson, in the early morning last December 31. The funeral wa s set for Saturday, January 5 th . Eternal rest grant unto Dorothy, O Lord. And let perpetual light shi ne upon her. May her soul a nd the souls of all the faithful departe d rest in peace. Amen! Congratulations to Jerry Davenport who is fully incorporated into the Body of Christ in the catholic churc h. He has been tak- ing classes starting with Fr. Thissen and continued the process of formation with Fr. Stroot in Frontenac and received the sacra- ments of initiation at the Sacred Heart Church Saturday, January 5. He and his family continue to be a mem ber of Saint Michael and he receives his first communion here in our Church at the 5:30 mass Saturday, January 5 th !
