(Corpus Christi ) 7th June 2015 Grounded in Faith Growing in Love Living in Hope * Tel: (02) 4721 2509 * Fax: (02) 4731 4259 * Website: www.stnicholasofmyra.org.au * P O Box 1868, Penrith 2751 A brief history of the feast of Corpus Chris The instuon of Corpus Chris as a feast in the Chrisan calendar resulted from approximately forty years of work on the part of Juliana of Liège, a 13th-century Norberne canoness, also known as Juliana de Cornillon, born between 1191 and 1192 in Liège, Belgium, a city where there were groups of women dedicated to Eucharisc worship. Guided by exemplary priests, they lived together, devong themselves to prayer and to charitable works. Orphaned at the age of five, she and her sister Agnes, were entrusted to the care of the Augusnian nuns at the convent and leprosarium of Mont-Cornillon, where Juliana developed a special veneraon for the Blessed Sacrament. Gospel Reflecon: Mark 14:12-16, 22-26. ‘This is my Body’ In the gospel stories, Jesus is always creang community around him, sharing meals and conversaon. Jesus creates community around us in a beauful , sacred way when we gather to hear the Word, break the bread, pass the cup and forgive one another. The Eucharist brings us together, helps us remember Jesus and sends us out into the world to share Jesus and his love with everyone. Just as Jesus is bread broken for others, the followers of Christ are entrusted with Jesus’ mission, to create community, be broken for others, poured out for many. A brief history of the feast of Corpus Christi

The institution of Corpus Christi as a feast in the Christian calendar resulted from approximately forty years of work on the part of Juliana of Liegravege a 13th-century Norbertine canoness also known as Juliana de Cornillon born between 1191 and 1192 in Liegravege Belgium a city where there were groups of women dedicated to Eucharistic worship

Guided by exemplary priests they lived together devoting themselves to prayer and to charitable works Orphaned at the age of five she and her sister Agnes were entrusted to the care of the Augustinian nuns at the convent and leprosarium of Mont-Cornillon where Juliana developed a special veneration for the Blessed Sacrament
