• St. Patrick was born in Britain but was kidnapped by Irish raiders.

• He was taken to Ireland but managed to escape and return to Britain.

• He promised he would return to Ireland to save the Irish.

• He used the Shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.

St. Patrick and the Snakes

• It is said that St. Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland and into the sea.

• There are no snakes in Ireland nowadays, but this is a myth.

Celebrations

• St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17th March every year.

• In many cities across the world there are parades and everybody wears green.

What happens on St. Patrick’s Day?

• Usually, after the parades there are concerts.

• Then, people drink alcohol until the early hourse in the morning, especially Guinness.

Rugby

• In Northern Ireland a rugby match is played on St. Patrick’s Day.

• The teams are of different schools in Northern Ireland and the winner receives the School’s cup.

• The matches are played all year but the final is on St. Patrick’s Day.
