On Sunday, March 1, at the 10 AM Mass at St. Patrick, Monsignor Padazinski celebrated the Rite of Sending for our three RCIA members: Bijan Pajoohi, April Alongi, and Catherine Karnitis. They have been meeting each Monday evening, starting in September, to learn about the Catholic faith, to pray, and to share the journey towards full communion into the Church. At the Rite of Sending, their sponsors and the parish community attested to their faithfulness and commitment. We also affirmed, as a parish, that we would continue to support them in prayer and by our actions as they embark upon the next stage in their journey. Later that afternoon, at 4 PM, Archbishop Cordileone celebrated the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption. After the reading of the Sacred Scriptures, and a moving homily by Archbishop Cordileone in English and in Spanish, the sponsors stood with the catechumens (those not yet baptized into our faith) and attested to their commitment and readiness. Next, the catechumens and their sponsors signed the parish Book of the Elect. Each RCIA director or representative then presented the Book of the Elect to the assembly from the steps of the altar. This was an impressive and moving sight to see, with all the parishes of our Archdiocese represented there on the steps of the altar! Following the presentation of the Book of the Elect, the candidates (those baptized Catholic and seeking to complete their Sacraments of Initiation ) stood up with their sponsors. The sponsors attested to the preparedness and faithfulness of the candidates, and the Archbishop accepted this testimony. Next came a blessing from the Archbishop, and the entire community sang a closing hymn. Archbishop Cordileone then processed through the Cathedral and downstairs to a reception area. We were delighted to take our turn having our picture taken with the Archbishop. Finally, we each went our separate ways in the parking lot, full of the joy we experienced this day, and headed home to Marin.

LENTEN REGULATION: ABSTINENCE: Everyone fourteen years of age and older is bound to abstain from meat on FRIDAYS of Lent and GOOD FRIDAY. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. In doubt concerning fast, a priest assigned to pastoral ministry or confessor should be consulted. In the spirit of penance, the faithful should not lightly excuse themselves from this obligation.

St. Patrick’s Confirmation Group at King Street Residence

Our 8th grade Parish Confirmation Group lives out the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which they received in abundance back in December. On Tuesday, February 25th, our young people served our neighbors at King Street a tasty meal of lasagna, salad, bread, and cupcakes. After dinner, they took turned leading us all in several rounds of Bingo. Both residents and Confirmandi had a great time.
