Symposium on “Developing Careers for

Freshers”

A first-of-its-kind symposium on the theme

“Developing Careers for the Freshers” was

organized by Indian Pharmaceutical Associa-

tion, Hanamkonda Branch at St. Peter’s In-

stitute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on August

8, 2013. This symposium was organized with

a view to familiarize the fresh graduates to

focus on learning practices to improve em-

ployability of fresh graduates for better

placements in the pharmacy profession. In

this symposium, Dr. Raghunandan Huruli-

halli, Associate Professor and Placement Offi-

cer at JSS University, Mysore talked on

“Essential Skills in the Pharma Work Place”.

Dr. Raj Kumar, CEO, HR Footprints, Hydera-

bad addressed on the “Expectations of Em-

ployers and how Institutions and Freshers

meet those”. Dr. Raj informed the students

that they have to build their curriculum vitae

rather than just write it!.

Mr. Ratnakar Nemani, CIO-GeneralGroup

and Business Head, General Technologies,

Bahrain elaborated on the topic “How Fresh

Graduates make themselves Highly Employ-

able”. He emphasized that the fresh gradu-

ates should be confident communicators,

good team players, critical thinkers and

problem solvers. He explained the impor-

tance of goal setting with live examples.

More than 300 students were attended the

symposium. The Chairman, T Jayapal

Reddy, Director, Dr. Rao Vadlamudi and

Principal, Dr Suresh Bandari thanked and

felicitated all the speakers for their valuable

contributions at the symposium.

Seminar on “Role of Biostatistics in Clinical Research”

A seminar on “Role of Biostatistics in Clinical

research” by Dr. Vishwanath (Mahesh) Iyer,

Head, Oncology Biometrics, Novartis Health

Care Pvt. Ltd, Hyderabad was organized at

St. Peter’s Institute of Pharmaceutical Sci-

ences on August 08, 2013 in association

with Drug Information Association St Peter’s

Student Chapter. Dr. Iyer emphasized the

role of biostatistics in drug development

process and informed the audience that bio-

statistics plays a major role in deciding the

fate of the drug and its efficacy.

Efficacy of the drug is identified and com-

pared with available standard drugs using

fine application of right statistics. His narra-

tion of complicated statistical designs using

such examples enthralled audience. All the

four phases of clinical research requires a

biostatistician, who can understand both

pharmaceutical sciences and statistics, as

he needs to design a proper study to screen

the safety and efficacy aspects of the drug.

He also explained commonly used designs

like 3+3 design, Bayesian design and others

with suitable examples from oncology. All

the M. Pharm, B. Pharm and Pharm. D. stu-

dents attended the seminar and participated

in discussion during an after the seminar. In

the end, Drs. Rao Vadlamudi and Suresh

Bandari felicitated the speaker and thanked

the resource person, the DIA and Mr.

Kaushik Desai, DIA India director, for their

support in organizing this useful and infor-

mative session.
